Buddy of mine came over today with a Savage 42. 22/410 that he had bought son for
Christmas. This is 1st one of them I've handled. It's had 1 box 410s and less than box of
22s through it. I guess breakdown mech. had been giving them trouble entire 1st time
they were shooting it. Made veins in neck pop out to open it. Being new gun I told them to return it. This gun is a 3rd rate novelty. I can't believe Savage would replace 24
with this thing. The 24s are popular in this area for small game with the price on this
42 at $400+ I recommended he get his money back and look for good used 24. I have
never shot the 42, anyone got experience with these?

I have one of the last 24V in 222/20. No need for the 42. I have read on the Savage 24 forum the 42 will break in.

I also have a Stevens 22/410 so the 42 just looks wrong to me.
