Here's a few more. A couple of these pics have been shown many times, but this is a Colt thread...

My favorite Colt revolver model of all is the great New Service. Stately and elegant, it's like shooting an oversized Python, only better. Only two reside here at present, both military contract models.

This variant features my favorite rendition of the "Rampant Colt" the short-lived Rampant Colt framed by the stylized "C." A Model 1909 .45 Colt.

The New Service Model 1909 shown with the smallest of Colts, a 1905 vintage New Pocket in .32 Long Colt.

The New Service variant that made me love the model, one of the Colt revolvers I've had since I was young, a Model 1917 in .45 ACP. This one's been shot more than any other Colt revolver and often carried afield in a belt holster. A really good revolver.

i have to say, i may be somewhat of a newbie but can really appreciate the examples in all the posted pix. While some look almost like they could be displayed as a piece of collectible art, bet they'd all do just fine if pressed into service.

Enjoying this thread.

This Colt Artillery Model, #5249, is from "Lot 5" (#4516-#5521) of the first 8 lots of
1,000 SAA revolvers delivered to the Army in 1874. "Lot 5" was earmarked for and issued
to the 7th Cavalry in late June, prior to the Black Hills campaign. This revolver, in it's
original Cavalry configuration, was likely on the battlefield with the troops of either
Major Reno or Captain Beenteen on June 25-26, 1876.

I have not seen a finish like that on one. Is that a custom finish, or a version on Colt's website that I didn't see?

Thanks for posting this picture. Mine has the same logo, and this is the first reference I have seen about it. How short lived was it?

Officers Model 38, second issue .38special.

I do have a letter on it, somewhere in the safe. As I remember, it is a Lew Horton open-ended run. It is based on a Colt XSE frame with Royal Blue finish. At the time I bought, only 37 were produced. This was introduced by LH at the 2015 SHOT show.

New Frontier in .22LR. Used it to christen my back 40 when we moved into the new house last year. My other ponies will have to wait until I get off work for pics, but I've accumulated more than I would have thought.
(1) Detective Special .38 SPL, (1) 2" Police Positive Special (1927 vintage with lots of "personality") .38 SPL, (1) Pocket Positive .32 Police, (1) Police Positive .38 Police which has had a partial "Fitz" done.

I do have some S & W but mine are pretty much working guns without embellishments such as a pristine 39-2, a well used 28-2, K-38, etc. One thing I'd like to do is put together is a S & W & Colt small auto composite picture.

Last time, I showed you all some of my revolvers. This time, I'll do the same with some autos.

First up, my EDC. A 1951 LW Colt Commander with ivory grips (Spresser Knife Works) in 38 Super:

One of three Colt 25 autos:

Colt 380:

Enhanced Officer's acp:

Colt Commander with $20 stags:

Another 38 Super with bargain bin stags:

1917-made 1911 Colt, U.S. Property

My pride and joy: A 1943 vet bring-back from Iwo Jima. The vet (local) received a battlefield commission and, as an officer, was able to bring his side-arm back with him. The Garand is a 1967 Pacific Fleet Trophy rifle and the knife is an M-3 combat knife.

Hope I haven't bored you guys too much. I gotta run. One of the things I do as part of my job is I volunteer with a group called Team Naturaleeza teaching natural science to kids, mostly Hispanic children. Last weekend, wife and I cut down a tree and I have to go section it to make "bee houses" for solitary (non-hiving) bees for the kids to complete.

I'd been looking for a brushed nickel Combat Commander for quite a while. In January, one showed up at my LGS. It had Pachmayr's, Wilson bushing,FLGR, and ambi-thumb safety, all done by Carniak Custom Colts here in the Detroit area. Fortunately, it also had all the original parts with it, including the original pristine stocks.

I took it home, got it back to "stock" status, and added a set of black buffalo horn stocks from Nutmeg Sports. Unfortunately, the original sights had been replaced with Novak's, so it's not completely stock. I also polished the feed ramp, and bought a couple of brushed nickel original Colt mags for it. It shoots like a dream (500 rounds and no FTF's, etc.). It does get carried.

Terrific thread!

My contribution is modest... Colt M1991-A1 Ser. 80. The stocks were made by me- rosewood/ebony prototypes.

This is my first 1911.

From 1918, I had it refinished this year, some would say sacrilege, but there was no finish left on it, and I felt it deserved to be redone and I love the way it came out. I call it the splendid old stallion.

This Model M belongs to a forum member but I thought you'd like to see it. This US Property
marked, pistol shipped in 1944, is bright blue and virtually new. It has the original numbered kraft box, both
extra magazines and it letters to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).

Need to get this lettered. Parkerized Model M Officers Issue. Serial number dates it to 1943. Some confusion with the Colt community saying they were not parkerized until 1944. Traces back to Patterson AFB and there are definite indications it was never issued to any Officer.

Have you checked Brunner's book? Yours maybe a "G2" issued pistol.

Look at all the Colt 3 5 7 revolvers that have appeared here. A pretty uncommonly found Colt model and here they are on Smith & Wesson Forum!

Here's a "1st year" 3 5 7 and a garden variety Python from 1978. Of the two, I prefer the 3 5 7's appearance, its balance, and its shooting qualities.

"Unbuttoned" they are the same gun underneath it all.

The only Colt rifle on the place. This SP-1 is from 1974.

I am going to start with just my D-Frame guns. Almost all have the original boxes. The boxed 3" det spec and the Chrome-bobbed showed up after I took the "family" photo that is shown in the next post.
I will post a python pic later. Then maybe some MKV frame.

Default No question about it....

Colts are great guns, but I think that you are paying more for the name like designer clothes which I can't afford. S&W fills my needs perfectly.

Rwsmith,

It will be a sad day when we only need to fill our needs and loose our wants! I love revolvers and appreciate the diversity; Colt, S&W, Rugers, and Korths are appreciated by me as shooters and sheer objects of desire, things of beauty!

Colt wheel guns is all about gone today with only whats out there. SW and Colt today are by name only holding company's. I don't much care new SW or Colt automatic's. Pre-1990 or older are best. Forged inner's and no MIM. And hand fitting with no investment casting frames, but forged. Real SW and Colt's.

Would love a pre-war Detective Special of any sort. Nickel would be a bonus.

Here's a '66 Detective Special.

Default 1905 .45 ACP Saved

Appreciated Colts -- those I appreciate most seem to be those I put the most effort into.

With no info about its history I date the job pre or during WWI when the 1905 was obsolescent. After
the war 1911s were common, cheap & there were several full-auto 1911 versions fielded.

Yours is not a GO issued pistol but it is a beautiful example. For those interested in such things may I immodestly recommend the book found at the link below my name?

That turned oit to be stunningly beautiful! The prancing pony at the end of the slide is just heart warming!

I also own many Glocks and owe my life to one but my love will always be for the oldfashioned milled and blued guns.
