I like the Colts just as much as the S&Ws.
1897 Colt SA in 45 Colt
1911 USGI rebuild
Colt 1911 circa 1918
original Colt 1860 (box is modern)
Colt Detective Special 1928 Detroit PD issue

Another Officers Model:
A .32 S&W Long Heavy Barrel. It shoots well, but needed better grips to enhance the experience. The new grips are crafted by Culina Grips with beautiful cocobolo wood and finish. It's an upgrade all the way.

Colt OM again
Here are my other two Colt Officers Models to fill out the caliber choices. As stated above, my hold is improved with grip modifications. The .22 LR has another grip set from Culina and the .38 S&W Special has a Tyler T-Grip.
The .22 LR is serial #504 with no chamber rim rebate.
The .38 has a 7.5" barrel, which is quite useful.

COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL
I was told 1967 because it has the hole in the hammer for the firing pin that was a short production time feature.

Colt 1908 "Vest Pocket" .25 ACP
Factory nickel, MOP non-original stocks, or magazine. Factory mags were nickel also, I am told. Mfg 1922. "Tansley" 1917 patent date on slide. Garage sale find. Only one mag thru it, but runs flawlessly.

Nothin' special... my Last Man Standing pistolas... MkIV Series 70 (bought in the 80's)...
Posted this pic before... eight of my twelve 3rd Gen Colt Peacemakers... have three pairs of Frontier Six Shooter's .44 WCF (44-40)... three pairs of SAA's (.45 LC)...
Not going to bore anybody with any 2nd Gen C&B Colt Army's and Navy's... there are a bunch of great-lookin' 1st Gen's Colt C&B's pictured on this thread.

Cut down renickeled 1890 Colt .44-40 on top, 1873/1973 Centennial .44-4-0 on bottom. Extra cylinder was a 2nd generation .38 Special rebored to .44 Special. That cylinder is an option for the bottom gun specifically.
Well worn but perfect internally 1951 Colt Cobra...
Two gun skeleton vest gun rig with stitched on holsters. 1878 Colt .45 (1900) and Colt SAA .45 (1911)...

Resurrecting another old photo thread tonight.
These Thai repros of the rare and valuable postwar Colt E/I frame targets came looking dull and unfinished. A few coats/rubdowns of tung oil later and they now look the part. It's a prewar OMT .22 but I didn't care for the balance of the old service grips, even with a grip adapter. The Colt is considerably heavier than a prewar K-22.

I only have two Colts.
An old New Army/Navy DA 38 (in 38 Long Colt)
A Government Model 380
Neither is especially pretty, both shoot just fine.
But I still prefer my S&W's.

Wow not a lot of action on this thread...
Did some staining work on the OMT grips to make them look a bit more authentic.
Made elk stag grips for the new Python. Love the stag/T-Grip combo and wanted it for myself. Don't recommend it from a financial perspective as it's very time consuming (and smelly) but they turned out pretty decent. The flaws are all too small to see in the pics, which is fine by me.

I’m still looking for my service revolver, a Detective Spl (689642), used in a 1974 gunfight w/armed robbery suspects in a downtown parking lot. If anyone has it, or knows its whereabouts, pls PM me & I’ll send the link to the ‘16 magazine article.

A Pair
Since this thread is back, here are the only functioning Colts in the stable at present. They will go to my heirs.
Colt Lawman MK III
An engagement from the woman I married 41 years ago.
Colt Cobra
A retirement gift to a Michigan State Police Lt., purchased from his estate and gifted to the same woman's father one Father's Day, it came back to us at his death and joined the Lawman as part of my daily load out circa 1985.

I guess so.
They do make some good pistols and rifles though. I have 3 and a half.
1917 Commercial. One serial number off from the group requisitioned by the USMC in February 1917.
2006 Stainless Commander. Great shooter.
M4 carbine. Just because.
And my half Colt "AR15A1". Colt USGI M16A1 upper on a Fulton Armory lower.

The caveat to that would be the USGI M1911A1's.
If I ever had 3-4 grand burning a hole in my pocket I'd LOVE to have a Union Switch & Signal from Swissvale PA.
Otherwise, agree.

Circa 1970 a friend bought a Colt, think it was a Diamondback. Compared to his S&W the trigger felt rough to me. What did I know at 18? Maybe just a bad one but it formed my first opinion of Colts.
Anyhow, the first revolver I purchased was a Smith Model 15 in 1975, that started my appreciation for the brand.
Fast forward to 2017, in retirement I started working for a small gun shop that the owner had a thing for Colts. Police Positives, Troopers, Pythons, I started to get an appreciation for the Pony.
He took in a Trooper in .357 that I took a liking to, about a year before he had another one that I vowed if I didn’t sell it that day it was going to be mine, guess what sold that day. I decided not to let another one slip through my hands but when I asked for a price he said “It’s going in my collection” which I respected.
Last winter his health while not the best before suddenly took a turn for the worse. Last full day in the shop before Christmas he told me to bring out that Trooper and to grab a 4473 and the Trigger Lock and Pistol Registration form our state requires. As there were a couple people in the shop I asked “Who’s buying it?”
He said “Get your license and CPL card, it’s yours!” He said it was my Christmas gift.
He passed about two months later. I think it was also a “remember me” gift.

While I have a good supply of S&Ws, I'm down to only these 3 Colts...
