CZ brings out a U.S. made 1911.

2015 brings the launch of the first pistol made in the USA that bears the CZ name. The CZ 1911 A1 is an homage to the past, a 5” government sized model built as a modern incarnation of the original 1911 A1. That original was adopted into US service in 1924, ‘improving’ on John Moses Browning’s original design. Our version makes several small ‘improvements’ as well, swapping the checkered plastic grips for checkered walnut, adding serrated slide stop, magazine catch and mainspring housing and using a stainless steel barrel. For the sake of the shooter, we elected to forgo the lanyard loop, and added a taller set of sights that are easier to use, with the front dovetailed in so that it can be swapped more easily. Though there are a number of changes, we feel the CZ 1911 is still true enough to the original service pistol to wear the A1 name.

Built with much tighter slide-to-barrel and slide-to-frame tolerances than vintage models, the result is much improved accuracy without compromising reliability. Built without a trigger safety, the trigger itself is aluminum, with pull specified at 5 lbs., give or take a pound. Its forged carbon steel frame and slide are finished in a black oxide and it ships with two 7-round magazines.

CZ-USA CZ 1911 A1 - CZ-USA

I think it's a great idea, especially since this is a Series 70 and fairly priced at $849.00 MSRP. But CZ entered a tough market with this pistol for sure, I just think of Colt, Remington, Springfield, Auto Ordnance, Cimarron and all the others that offer - at least some kind of - a GI version of the 1911 pistol.

They are being made by Dan Wesson. IIRC that was confirmed shortly after they announced it.I think they will compete well against Colt 80 series and SA Milspecs. They will be a cut above RIAs and other imports IMHO.

I do not think it will sell at the MSRP. My guess it will move around $650 just under what Colt 80 series guns are selling for and just above what SA Milspecs run. That is the market they are going after. It might make a great base gun depending on how closely they are respecting the JMB spec.

I am interested to see one in the wild. I have not heard a firm release date yet.

Are they going to compete with themselves? They own Dan Wesson

DW doesn't offer any "GI" 1911 and therefore it was a very smart move by CZ. But they just enter a tough market with their GI model, I especially thinking of the imports.

They missed the entry level into the 1911 market at $849?

My new auto ordnance US ARMY WW2 1911a1 in park finish was offered at $389 in 2004. I think to get there foot in the door on one of the closest USGI 1911a1 clones being offered today brand new is the AO. The investment caster frame shows little wear to this day. The gun rags got one thing correct.

But the CZ pistols have been awesome quality wise to me. The CZ75 & 85, CZ83 & 82 have been tops quality. Maybe at $849 it maybe a good buy. The carbon steel forged frame and slide, tighter frame rail to slide fit, taller dove tail sights, wood grips surely has my interests?
Maybe a 1911a1 we won't have to improve on, right out of the box it sounds like we have a winner, bingo!!!! Black oxide finish doesn't sound bad too.
Time will tell we need reviews on this one.

I was hoping someday to add a stainless 1911a1 and a nickel cimarron 1911a1 to the safe but this one sounds good too.

The accuracy with any 1911 starts with the fit of the barrel to the barrel bushing first. On my 1911a1 norinco project I left the barrel to slide fit orginal, I fitted the national match barrel bushing to a new USGI surplus barrel. At 25yds she shoots clusters and cloverleafs using new Russian wolf 45acp ball ammo. Even without tightening up the slide to frame rail fit.

I notice on every used 1911 the forward area of the frame rails seems to have more looseness and wear over the rear section. I think I know why but that's another post/story.

Buying a new model that's offered by a reputable company that's known for quality fire arms doesn't worry me.

Methinks me wants one. There's a lot of guns I want, for sure. But this one somehow really appeals to me. I was on the fence with trying a RI or maybethe Ruger, I think I would prefer this CZ.

All I have to do is find one...............

Thanks for the introduction.

I have been thinking of going back to a standard configuration 1911 45 for carry and this is a timely post for me.
I've owned many CZ pistols and have never had a bad one. The quality control at CZ is second to none and better than most American firms.
I will be watching this pistol when it comes out.

I wouldn't buy one because of the rollmarks, they ruin the gun, never mind anything else about it. Luckily I'm not in the market for an $850 'entry level' 1911.

I like the sights there perfect, not too high, there just right. I'm thinking it just maybe better than a entry level 1911. All my cz pistols have been tops in quality. The functioning is the most important thing over the roll marks.

I don't care for the Remington not the Ruger 1911a1. I been looking for a shooter/beater 1911a1. I may try one of those under $400 ones. Maybe a Turkish one.

I've owned many 1911s from different brands and if the quality of this even comes close to my Valor then I'll be picking one up as soon as they're available. I'd have to swap the trigger for a longer one, but that's the only change I'd make.

No thanks. For $849 you can pick up a Colt. Guess which one will be worth more down the road.

The MSRP is not what it will cost in the stores. My question is, when will it be available?

Entry level 1911?
My Tisas 1911 shoots as good as my Kimber Pro Carry II and at $365 from one guy on GB with no CC or shipping charge well worth it.
I did have to change out the grip safety to beavertail.
And I changed the grips to personalize it...
Dead on with 230 gr FMJ at 25 yds POA with no FTE or jams

I have a Tisas R100 and although it's 100% reliable and decently accurate, the front strap is very thick and is out of spec like many other dimensions on it like the very thin trigger track as another example. The slide to frame fit also became as loose as a 1911 that went through WWI & WWII after only a few hundred rounds. Maybe they got their act together, but I've put it in the "will never buy again" list.

The CZ 1911A1 is an entry 1911 although with much higher quality than others. Then again I haven't touched one, but every CZ pistol and Dan Wesson 1911 I've handled and owned is very well made.

The best low cost/entry level 1911 brand I've owned is Rock Island Armory. The 4 I've owned were much better than the Tisas or Taurus PT1911(absolute junk) that I owned.
