I ran across this HiPower and was curious as to approx. value & age.
It has a 4 digit serial #,tangent sights and is slotted for a shoulder stock:

It appears you have a nice example with a tangent sight and slotted for a shoulder stock. We'll need more clear pictures particularly of the marking to Id this example.

It could be pre-war. No Nazi proofs........ It isn't an Inglis either. Were the original ones from the 1930's in this configuration?

I know the pre war Belgian army contract guns had the tangent sights and were slotted for a stock. Close up photos of the marks would help. You might want to post in the Browning Hi Power sub forum over at the 1911 Forum. There are some pretty knowledgeable BHP fans over there.

Maybe because of its age its exempt, but doesn't having a grip capable of accepting a shoulder stock make it a SBR?
Regardless if a stock is attached or not.
That's what I've read, and I may be wrong about BATFs interpretation.
Nice gun, regardless.

It's either a pre war or very early post war. A detailed picture of the other side with all markings will give more info as to which contract it was. Lots of surface rust hurts the value greatly, so if your buying it, I wouldn't go much above $500 to $600 and that's if all number's match.
The slotted backstrap is correct and not a problem with ATF.

If that Hi Power has a place for a lanyard ring on the bottom of the left grip and has commercial markings, it may be an early Chinese contract. They are never in great shape cosmetically. The one in Blake Stevens book also appears well used. They had low serial numbers. I think the Nationalist Chinese were the first contracts for these pistols. They are also fairly scarce. I have no idea how much they are worth. I have one. I think I paid $500 for it. The guy I bought it from didn't know what he had, and it was a brown pistol. Probably worth a lot more to a Browning collector who knows about them.
