Metford rifling was used on British rifles. Metford rifling has no sharp edges on the lands. The edges are rounded off to reduce the accumulation of fouling. When you look at Metford rifling it will look like the lands have been badly worn by thousands of rounds, when in fact there is really no appreciable wear.

While you're educating us (and sharing that gorgeous Colt), can you tell us anything about the .455 Colt and its use in Canada?

The 455 Colt by Winchester is a clone of the 455 Webley just Winchester not using the Webley name. Canada was/is part of British empire and influenced by the mother country. I have a 2nd model S&W shipped to Winchester in 1915 to use as a test gun for the 455 Colt ammo.
