Honor Defense

Has anyone seen this in person? I'm particularly interested if it takes shield magazines. I'm sure some forum members will be going to SHOT and can take a closer look.

Why not just buy a Shield? They take Shield magazines, they're proven, they're quality, they're reasonably priced. I've read about "Honor Defense", seen their website, they're not offering anything more or better.

Heard them mentioned on one of the podcasts I listen to and then looked them up. Interesting, but not sure I would be interested in buying one. I try to keep up with other brands and models just to know what is on the markets. Except for Sigs. Don't know nothing 'bout Sigs.

A 22oz single stack with a 3.2" barrel !! Been around for a year but still not been in the hands of independent reviews like , Truth about guns or any one else . If I can have a m&p9c for the same weight and general size or a shield , g43 or cw9 for a single stack I don't see a need for this one .

I own two Shields as well as several other M&Ps. This has ambi controls and some other features that make it different.

Has anyone seen these hitting the shelves yet? Just wondering about the street price and overall thoughts on the firearm.

I used to be an early adapter. Through experience, I no longer am.

Gun sales are hot right now, and I have no doubt that the OP pistol is just one more guy who wanted to start his own company making something for a market that is hot.

With all the very dependable small SD autos available now, I would want to know exactly why THIS one is so different that it should merit my money.

As an example, I have a Rohrbaugh R9S Stealth. I love it, but the company sold out to Remington.
My Rohrbaugh is 9mm which is quite an accomplishment for such a small pistol.
Remington has just now (finally) come out with their own rehashed version of the same pistol (except in .380 only) they call the RM380.
I like my Rohrbaugh so much that I intend to pick up the RM380, but I won't be an early adapter. I'll let others have the honor first, and then later when it's been deemed to be a good and reliable pistol, I will go ahead and get one.

I won't say that I'd never consider buying the Honor Defense pistol, I just won't consider doing so for at least many months before some of the better known reviewers do an impartial test of the pistol first.

There's so many proven pistols like this on the market now from known manufacturers I'd have to ask why? I'm left handed and the full ambi doesn't do anything for me either.
Another consideration I think about is what if something happens and I (or my wife) have to sell one or all of my firearms? Known reputable firearms are like cash, odd balls are tough to sell.

Shot show range

Shot the Honor Defense at Range day. Have to admit, it is a nice pistol.
Comfortable grip, pretty darn accurate.
The am I controls are nice and it has a stainless steel chassis underneath.
The range guys also disassembled it without pulling the trigger.
Looks like a better design to me.
I train to shoot with either hand, so I like the ambi controls.
Would think a lefty would as well.

Btw, it did not take Shield mags.
This pistol is ambidextrous and they told me it has it's own mag that does not work in the Shield

I own a Shield, great gun, but I'm a lefty and would love to have a single stack 9 with full ambi controls like my M&P 9's (no clue why S&W didn't make the Shield ambi like the other M&P's). I understand the Honor Defense also has some other features the Shield does not have like takes down without pulling trigger, back sight flat edged on inside to assist in one handed racking, 2 backstraps, looks like better serrations on the slide to help with racking (the Shield is hard to rack. Harder than full size M&P's, harder that Glock 43). Sounds like exactly what the Shield should have been!

FWIW every time I purchased a new-to-market model it was a costly mistake and I've learned my lesson, finally. I'll let others take the lead then decide once the bugs have been worked out.

Been following this company for a while. Saw their FIST model about a year or so ago. Didn't like it, I just don't need a pistol with an under bite.

Saw and handled their compact model a few months ago. My opinion was changed almost instantly. I'm not about to run out and trade my Shield in for one, but the long slide version, 3.8 inch barrel version of the Honor Guard is set to be released before 1/17. I'm pretty sure I will own one when it is available.

In my opinion the Shield and value series Kahr are just about the perfect carry guns. I prefer the Kahr by about a 1/2 percentage point, basically because the striker on the Kahr is not pre tensioned, and the grip feels ever so slightly better to me. I think the Honor Guard will probably move to the top of my list though. If any of these would come out with a internal hammer fired DAO, I would be 100% satisfied, I really do not like striker fired guns.
