Very pleased with this non-permanent modification to my son's 10/22. We had a decent, inexpensive scope on it but he told me that he has really warmed up to shooting with the iron sights I have on my 90's AR-15. He say's they're "more fun". :)

You've probably seen these from Tech-SIGHTS:

Ruger® 10/22 Rifle - adjustable aperture sights

I installed them last week. There are two models for the 10/22 - one having a single rear aperture which is adjustable for elevation and the other having a dual flip aperture on the rear. Both aperture holes on the flip model are about the same size as the small USGI 300-800 hole but are set at differing elevations.

We chose the TSR100 w/dual flip aperture because it has the ability to instantly toggle elevations and the rear sight aperture itself sits lower between the sides of the rear sight base.

The front sight post is adjusted for elevation like an AR but it has 5 detents instead of 4 and the post is thinner. Click adjustment on both front and rear are about 1/4"@25yd.

Up until now, the only alteration we did to the Ruger besides the scope was adding a rubber butt pad to serve as a stock extension. After installing these new iron sights, I removed it and put the original thin plate back on to bring the rear-sight eye-relief where it needs to be for a sight picture more-or-less identical to the AR-15.

Didn't take my son but a few shots to get the low aperture zero'd at 50yd. He much prefers the new iron sight setup to the glass optic.

Will be shooting more paper later to see where the other aperture hits at farther distances. Supposedly the long range selection has a 4MOA difference from the short range and the manufacturer states that with the one marked 0-2 hitting at 50yd, the other is supposed to be on at 100yd (assuming w 40gr regular ammo).

Anyway... here are the pics:

looks like a nice set up. Have seen these Tech sights on a Ruger American bolt in 22 L.R. Considered them but stuck with a scope for my R/A Compact in 22 magnum. Mine reminds me of a 10/22 with a bolt. Glad your son enjoys tie set up.

I did the same thing to one of my 10/22s that you guys did -- put the Tech Sight TSR 100 on it. It zeroed quickly and easily and I shoot about as good with it as I do with a red dot sight. You got to love that.

What's the accuracy like these days with the sporter barrel? I've heard Ruger has been taking more care making them and they supposedly shoot better.

What's wrong with the factory irons on the 10/22? I have found my take-down model accurate enough that I haven't changed a thing. Just wondering.

Some people do better with peep sights instead of an open rear sight. Plus you have a longer sight radius, which often helps with accuracy. Others like having the same sight peep and post as an AR15 for cheap practice, without needing to get an MP15-22 or a conversion kit or upper.

Here's my first target from my 10/22 Take-Down. 30 rounds at 25 yds. Iron sights. Broke the rifle down after each mag. Right out of the box, no adjustments to the sights. I don't think there is room for a lot of improvement in these sights. Maybe my old eyes could use some help but I'm not touching the sights.

With the optic and the rifle on bags and me really concentrating, I could hit in the 1" range at 50yd using 40gr Automatch. Not great but acceptable for a .22. Anxious to get to know this rifle's new sights.

How's the installation of these parts? I may look at these for my 10/22.
Straightforward as can be. Getting the front blade off was the hardest part. My tip will make it easy... Take the barrel and receiver off the stock, wrap the receiver in a towel to avoid accidental damage. Use a leather wrap and secure the front-most part of the barrel in a vise with only the sight hanging out left side up. Drift the sight insert from the shooter's left to right using a brass punch and medium-light hammer. Very easy mounting on the front sight assembly - goes in a lot easier that the Ruger blade comes out. The rear sight mounts using the two rearmost receiver holes. Use blue LocTite on all screw threads and careful torque on the rear. Well engineered.

Not a thing. One of the best open sight pictures I've seen on a carbine. The thing was that we had a glass optic on this one and my son has taken to preferring the ghost ring setup on my AR's. I saw this as an opportunity to turn his scoped .22 semi into an "Appleseed Gun" with AR aperture sights.
