Default Series 80 Combat Commander

Well, I traded away the Sig 227. I ran an ad in
the Outdoor Trader, offering it for sale or trade, and
indicating my like for S&W revolvers and 1911s. Very
quickly I had an offer of a two-tone Series 80 Combat
Commander plus cash. After looking at a few more nibbles
and tentative offers, I accepted his offer. We met Saturday
afternoon about 40 miles from my home. It was the best kind
of deal; he was ecstatic about the 'smoking deal' he was getting
on a gun he really wanted, and I was glad to unload a gun
I just wasn't crazy about and come away with a gun I really
like, plus a little cash.

I have no idea if the finish on my new CC is original. It looks
factory, but as I understand it from a little research, Colt only
did this for one year. It is good-looking, and the gun functioned
perfectly through about 175 rounds with six different magazines.
If anyone can give me any info on a time frame the gun was built,
or the probability of the finish being original, I would appreciate it.
You can reference the Serial Number in the pictures.

I am a member of The Colt Forum, but I seldom post there. I am
just more comfortable seeking information here.

I can't help you with background knowledge of Colt, but....

Can say how much I like that Commander!

I have no clue what a P227 is worth, but whatever it is, I think you did great. I love the look of that pistol. Wanna trade?

From the Colt website:
Colt Firearm Serial Number Lookup - Year of Manufacture

1995 04012E or
1987 04612

I think the former was an 'enhanced' version and would have had an E at the end of the serial number. But I'm hardly a Colt 'expert'. More likely 1987. There was an 'Elite' model of the time period with the same type finish but these had three dot sights.

Thumbs up SERIES 80

Sorry, I cannot be of help with the background, I picked this one up years ago NIB and had no reason to look any further. She will do her job if I do mine. No complaints. I did add the Mastodon Ivory stocks early on.

All you need to make for a good deal is two parties walking away happy.

Gorgeous Commander. As much as I love Government models, my hand says the Commander swings, points and aims more easily, and clears leather easier.

Terrific carry piece. May you run it hard, enjoy it and never need it.

Years ago Guns & Ammo had a picture of Ross Seefried on the cover. He was shooting a 2 tone 1911. I knew I had to have one and it took many years, but a couple of years ago I had the frame of my GC done in CPII. I love the look and it tightened the gun up also.

Good trade. I have a two tone 1911 Colt. It is not an 80 series. It also was modified to have adjustable rear sight and a light gathering front sight. I have posted pictures previously under Show us Your Carry 45s. Beautiful firearm. Enjoy.

Talking

I had a custom Colt Stainless Combat Commander and sold to a friend and I have always regretted that decision. He passed away and they family wouldn't sell it back to me which was our deal when he bought it from me.

Wow! Those are some beautiful grip panels!
I'm thinking mine would look good with some stags.
