Colt Railway Express Police Positive .38 and Badge
I bought this gun from a friend of mine today. It belonged to his great uncle who worked for the railway express agency from 1929 until 1940.I could not believe he wanted to sell it but he said it meant nothing to him.So I bought it. The gun is a 1931 Colt Police Positive .38 in Colt New Police .38

I'd buy it too. Among my Colts, I still do not have a PP in .38 NP, aka .38 S&W.

I probably would have dislocated my shoulder reaching for my billfold. Hard to believe someone would sell something like that.
I have a Winchester Model 12 factory riot gun made in 1951 that has the Railway Express stamp on the right side of the stock.

My advise is to get a factory letter from Colt. This will certainly add value and also of course document the piece as being an actual RWE gun.

And it amazes me, jimmy, why folks will sell "heirlooms" that are most likely "not on paper."
If I were the OP, I would pick up a few boxes of .38S&W/Colt NP which does not seem to be available all the time, at least in my experience.
