I probably have more Ruger firearms than any other brand . . .
My latest is a little SR22. It came out of pawn about three
weeks ago and sat in the used gun case for several days. I
had thought for a while that I wanted one of these, and after
almost selling it a couple of times, I decided I would just put
it on lay away. I paid it out and brought it home yesterday.
I had a chance to shoot it this afternoon. I figured, as with
many semi-auto .22s, that it would be finicky about what ammo
is reliable with it. This might yet prove to be the case, but today
I fired 100 rounds of the Federal bulk pack 36 grain, high
velocity hollow points without a bobble. The ammo seemed very
consistent, with no duds or even obviously low-power rounds.
I was tickled by the way the gun/ammo combo worked.
The only complaint I have is the atrocious double-action trigger.
Otherwise, it is a delight to shoot. The magazines load easily,
the recoil is mild, and the .22 ammo is easier on the pocket than .45
or .38 special. Just the thing for old, arthritic hands and a thin
pocketbook.
This will be my go-to golf cart patrol firearm. I generally carry
a j-frame .38 special, but am reluctant to expend expensive
self defense rounds that are generally in them. This little piece
will lend itself well to plinking or disposing of rattlesnakes,
armerdillers, and the occasional feral cat. Mostly plinking at pine
cones and tin cans, I spect.
I like it.
