I had a Leupold M8 3X for my Ruger No. 1 RSI in .243:

In a bout of temporary sanity I sold the Leupold.

Fortunately, I was healed of my mental infirmity and I found a replacement that I hope to mount and sight-in soon.

Unlike N-Frames, the scopes of the 60's and 70's are not nearly as good from a mechanical or technical standpoint compared to the scopes of today. But like the old revolvers, there is something about the Leupold M8 3X that makes we want to have one.

One of the best scopes you can have on a rifle if you are a woods
Hunter, who shoots game that is running. Maybe not the best for
the guys shooting out of stands at animals that are stationary at
at long distance, the 4x12 crowd.

Not being a hunter I am in it for the guns.
I do, however, get a lot of enjoyment out of finding the right scope for the right gun punching paper at the range.

Leupold's Custom Shop will sell you a new 3X FX II for $399 base and customize it till you run out of cash.

The old M8 is awesome.
The new FX is undoubtably awesomer

Real men use iron sights in the brush and woods :D

I have one of those M8 3xs.

I have it on a Winchester model 70 in .300 H&H magnum. One of my favorite hunting rigs.

I had a 3x Leupold bought new in about 1977, used it on several different rifles, then put it on a Remington 600 Mohawk and gave that rig to my brother. A few years ago, he decided he wanted a 3-9x on his rifle and gave the 3x back to me. Not having a need for it at the time, I foolishly sold it. Wish I had not...

I found one at the San Jose Gun Show many years ago. I think I paid $35 for it. I didn't have a rifle for it until I bought my Mini-14. I love that scope.

Scope

A 3x Leupold with a post and crosshair sits atop my pre 64 Winchester featherweight since the 60's. Always liked that scope.

Maybe so, until you can't see them any longer. :(

The Leupold 3X gives some additional mounting possibilities, owing to its tube length, eye relief, and turret location. Everyone that has one seems to like them. I've been tempted to order one of the new production versions but haven't made the decision yet. It would be nice if they made a matte-finish 30 mm tube model. (It would look more at home on the rifle I have in mind.)
