What is your favorite single stack 9mm?
I've owned several (Sig P220,P225,P6, S&W 908 and others I can't remember.... )over the years and currently have a 39-2,Walther P1,and my favorite ....the HK P7.
I bought it when the German Police surplus guns were fairly plentiful about 10 years ago. It is laser beam accurate and feeds anything. Home defense is its' primary job. But, it gets some carry time also.
Here it is in an alligator hide holster made by Little Bear Holsters in Jacksonville Florida several years ago:
What is yours???

Got to be the 39-2. Best looking Smith semi-auto made and shoots good also.

Two weeks ago I would have said a tie between my 39-2 and Sig P6. Then I bought a new Colt Government Competition in 9mm. I've only put one box of ammo through it so far....but it could be the winner. I mean it's a 1911, has a great trigger and looks wonderful (it replaced a Star Super B).
I'll be using it a bunch more in the coming weeks and although it's "competing" against some other great guns, it could be my new favorite single stack..and may even give my Browing HP and Sig 226 a run for their money.

I don't own one (yet!), but I really like the Sig P239. I've yet to shoot one, but the one I handled felt like it was made for my hand. It had the DAK trigger and I thought it was one of the best, if not the best, DA pulls I've ever felt on a semi-auto. The P239 is at the top of my list of semi-autos I want to get.

Used to be a Walther P-38, then Walther P5 Compact, then a S&W 39.
Looks like the SIG/Sauer P225 I picked up last weekend is probably going to move them all down one notch.

A Colt Commander clone that I built with a Remsport frame and slide. I like the Sig Sauer P239 as well.

H&K P7M8. Very size efficient, guns that shoot small cartridges should be sized to them.
Second place would be my S&W Chiefs Special 9mm. I might like it more if it had grips other than those huge, rubbery Hogues. I should have bought some Big Dogs when he was making them.

Walther P1/P38, and the Luger. I just like them and shoot them very well. A P1 goes for along for SD quite often.
I've always liked the S&W39 and have owned several over the years. Just never could shoot them well, not a comfortable handgun for me. Kept getting rid of them (some very nice examples too),,then going out and buying another because I was still was drawn to them. But the same results over and over.

My loyalties lie thoroughly in a tie.......... S&W M 3913/14 family and a Colt Series 70 Combat Commander in 9 mm. I bought it to convert to 38 Super which I did and really like, but kept going back to the 9 mm for practice. With the advent of modern day 9 mm ammo, I find fewer and fewer reasons to go with the 38 Super setup. Yet, I still carry my M 3914 with night sights more than any other handgun..........

For double stack, I like CZ's, but my favorite single stack is the model 39. I recently had my 39-2 coated by Birdsong.

I haven't had a single-stack nine that I didn't like, although it's not a huge list. A Star BM, Walther P38 (P1), a Llama 1911, and my favorite, which I still have and carry, which is this Model 39. I'd really prefer to carry a 39-2, and if I ever see one at a decent price, I'll probably get it. Until then, this is still my "goin' to the city" gun. I normally EDC a Colt DS, but prefer to have that little extra when going to Portland or Seattle.
My favorite 9mm is the BHP. The 39 is #2. Yes, ahead of the Luger!

Thanks. I don't normally like to refinish an original, but this was one of those AIM imports that was in rough shape and so gummed up it would not fire. I cleaned it, shot it, and liked it so much that I thought it might be nice to give it a makeover since I plan on keeping it. I agree with you that a polished blue finish is more preferable, but Birdsong is a local company and the guys there are so nice to deal with. It came out great considering what it was before.

Tough choice between the Sig P210 and S&W 952. I find accuracy about the same. I'll give the Sig the edge based on sheer build quality alone. It has very few equals in that regard. As great as the 952 is, its not one of them.
After those two, the HK P7M8 gets an honorable mention. I always loved the design, accuracy, and quality.

That's easy!
The Original Swiss made SIG Neuhausen P210, for accuracy, design, handling, reliability, durability, exceptional raw materials, and workmanship.
After that, Parabellum P08, the original "Luger".

I only have one 9mm, a Ruger LC9S Pro. So, it's obviously my favorite. Pluses are it's accurate, VERY light and compact, and has the smoothest trigger I've ever felt on a striker fired pistol. Slight negative is the recoil is harsh enough to make 45 ACP from a 1911 feel almost like a 22 rimfire.

Agreed. As I posted in another thread, the 39-2 to have and to hold.
For usefulness, my 3914 gets the nod.

Very difficult for me to choose. Of the pistols already mentioned I have some experience with three I really enjoyed. The P7M8 had a really sweet trigger, the P08 with an awful looking bore was surprisingly accurate and the P210-5 was just awesome.
I really enjoyed them all. Didn't fancy the Star or Llama pistols I tried and would really like to try the Sig P225 and P239.

For everyday concealed carry..... it's my 3913NL with checkered Hogue wood grips and flush fit 7rd magazine..............
But I really like my Beretta 92 Compact Type M ...8+1 , 4.25inch barrel/slide.....
For some reason Smith 39s and a Sig 225 have come and gone but the 3913/14s and 92 Type Ms have multiplied..................

If we were JUST talking "looks" I would say the Model 39.
But all things considered, I say the S&W Shield 9mm - hands down.

My favorites? Honestly, the only two I own. Like them equally well.
A pristine 908s and a beat to hell, cosmetically challenged 909.
Never had a hiccup with either. Both fit the same holster. Honestly, I'd have to say the 909 is my all purpose go to gun. One more ding or one hundred more dings won't harm its perfectly imperfect finish.

That be true! Look at those classic lines without the distraction of fingerprints and reflections. I'm not a coatings kind of guy but that look ( and especially with those grips) is amazing!

In over 50 years of shooting for fun, competition, self defense and duty I never owned a 9mm.
Then last Saturday at a gun show in Texas I bought a nice condition 39-2 with 2 mags.
At 10 yds it shoots clover leafs;out to 50' it's 1 1/2" groups with Walmart Perfecta 9mm ammo.
I bought a few extra factory mags and recoil springs but can't find a spare barrel yet.

My first was response was going to be our M&P Shield but then I remembered I had this one in the safe. If you have a nice P-08 in the safe it is hard to say it isn't your favorite single stack 9mm.

I'm not sure if this counts. It is a semi auto but not usually loaded with a mag. I always liked Mauser C96

Nope, it has a staggered (internal) magazine, much like a Kar98.

What is your favorite single stack 9mm?
|
That's actually a tougher question than it seems to be. I own 3 models-
a Norinco T-54 (2 of them actually), a Star Super B, and a S&W 39-2.
Of the 3, you'd expect the Norinco to be the first eliminated... but that was my first gun, I bought it at a gun show with my dad. It's been very reliable and accurate, and it is what fostered my love for surplus and lesser-known pistols. It's solidly made and all steel. I experimented with making homemade grips with my dad's woodworking tools, one of the only times I used his equipment myself instead of just standing by watching him make things (although he was a chemical engineer, he was the classic "do-it-all" dad, and he made some wooden cribs for us, furniture, wooden toys (rolling dogs with springs), etc. He also did our own bodywork on cars and even set up a paint booth to repaint our Mustangs growing up). So that gun has great sentimental value.
My Star B Super was the first pistol I owned that had the "1911 look", something that probably tugs at every kid who grew up watching all those B&W war movies, MASH, etc. I was, and still am, very impressed by how smooth and slick it is, how everything fits with a tight click, and by how easy it is for me to shoot at longer distances (probably my best pistol for paper plates at 50+ yds). Plus, I like the size; I like fullsize guns.
My S&W 39-2 is probably the most valuable of the group, and it seems to be a very nicely made pistol. It's a very good combination of functionality and classiness, something that has passed us by in the duty pistol world. Even though mine is not in like-new condition, it just has normal wear, and although honestly all my pistols are mostly for range and fun, the 39-2 is probably the closest thing I have to a safe queen.

I'm a big fan of the Beretta 92FS and for the longest time I really wanted the Beretta 92 Compact Type M, but could never find it.

To make you feel really bad.... sorry.............. I too am a Beretta 92 fan..............................
I have 2 FS with factory round trigger guards (strange); two SBs (bright bluing almost ANIB) and a D (Double action only) .....Compact Type Ms all have factory wood grips. The one FS I carry and shoot wears Farrar's rubber grips and is reverse two tone....... got my first one in about 93/94 as a hedge against the AWB issues and found the others along the way......

Favorite single-stack 9mm,......wasn't easy but once I listed them all the answer was obvious. The 9mm Benelli B76 is one of my favorite firearms of all time.
The Benelli has a unique action that allows a rigid barrel affixed to the frame, but it's not gas operated nor gas retarded. It's not a simple blow-back either,.....it's a locked breach. Makes 'the' perfect suppressor host and they're incredibly smooth and slick. Slide feels like it's on roller bearings.

Just gotta be the Model 39. I put MMC adjustable sights on it. The more I shoot it the better I like it. It feels better in the hand than anything i've ever shot.
And yes, I've shot a Luger some and also a Mauser. The Mauser is a 9mm but not single stack as the magazine holds 10 rounds double stacked.
