Default Sig 239 9mm info and value needed

I recently came across a gen one Sig Sauer 239 in 9mm. I'm not too familiar with these and wanted to know more about them from a practicality and collectibility standpoint. It is used in about 90% condition, box, manual and two mags. I could pick it up for around $400. For concealed carry I have a shield in both 9mm and .45 so I'm not sure how often I would "carry" this weapon. Most likely would use as a neat backup gun, range gun, or simply as an investment. What do you all think.

Thank you in advance for your feedback and thoughts.

A face to face, no tax or FFL involvement fee for $400.00 I'd jump on it.
Very nice guns.
Do it...

I have owned three Sig P239 pistols, all in .40 S&W. I sold the first one and replaced it with a P225. A little over a year ago I bought my second one, then the third a few months later. I tote #2 hiking in warmer weather as ir is easier to conceal than my Glock 29. I swapped #3, the two-tone gun, over to .357 Sig. The Sig is slightly bigger and heavier than a S&W 3913. I want a P239 9mm.

#2, warm weather hiker.

#3, now a .357 Sig with CT stocks.

I agree with ronnie gore on the prices

I have a P239 in 40 cal and bought it new. About 1000 rounds later shoots like I got it yesterday. Never saw one in 9mm. However do have one of the West German P6's in 9mm and so far very accurate and slightly finish challenged. When I bought it the dealer was giving away holsters and I got the West German AKAH holster with it. Haven't seen a P6 at our local gun show in quite sometime. Frank

Let me address the collectible/investment questions. I paid $375.00, $350.00, $400.00 for mine. The second one was a CPO, or Certified Pre Owned. The CPO guns have been factory refurbished...some look brand new but every once in a while a bad one turns up. These guns typically bring less money.

There were some short runs of various versions; two-tone, DAO, melted features, etc. that bring more money than a standard version but only if NIB. A well worn Sig is a tool, not a showcase item. The P239 does not have the fan base some Sig pistols enjoy. I prefer my P228 over my P225's & P239's buy they have different purposes for me.

Lastly, here in metro Atlanta, Glock, Inc. is only a few miles off I-285. Easily accessible with outstanding free customer service. This affects prices and desirability of other brands as well.

Youre paying about what it's worth. Only thing is was that including tax or total out the door? A bit better if it's OTT but it's not really any kind of a deal. They are not collectable but anything can happen in a 100 years.

IIRC I bought my P239 nearly 20 years ago. I have both .357 Sig and .40 S&W barrels. It is accurate and reliable. As soon as I bought it, I put on Hogue wood grips. Not sure what the wood is but they are dark red in color and the fit is perfect too. I think it is just beautiful in an "all business" kind of way.

I'd recommend getting a P239, especially for $400!

Thanks for all the input. I was able to pick this up for $420 OTD. Also was able to get two new factory mags for $25 each. Nice little package with box and manual and now I have four mags to go with it. Reminds me a lot of a P6 I used to have.

That one looks great - good catch! It's kinda like a 3914 - but the slide is heavier and wider. If you intend to shoot it quite a bit - I think it's a better proposition since the barrel runs steel-on-steel versus steel-on-aluminum on the 3913/3914 ...

You did real well there. I had a OWB Galco Combat Master (cm202) holster with my first P239 that rode high, was secure, and concealed well. You might give the model a look.

I've had one for about a year now. Gave more than that for it. I've put several hundred rounds through it without any problems. You did very well.

The only 9mm I own is a Sig P239 and it serves duty as my work truck pistol. Mine has night sights and shots and functions great I would like one in 40 caliber. I like it because it has a little more weight than a plastic semi auto and is a high quality piece.I bought it 10 years ago from original owner that had it for 2 months and never fired a round through it for $450 it came with 2 mags and extra set of rubber Hoge grips, which I took off and installed the factory ones because I felt the Hoges were to bulky for me. I've shot thousands of factory and my reloads without one failure to fire. The finish has held up great and looks as good as the day I bought it.

I have a 3913 and would buy a P239 because it's similar but heavier and still in production. If I saw one for $400 I would snatch it up.

Around here, they are running in the $500-$600 asking price. I picked 1 up at the September gun show for $500. Very clean 9mm. Since, Tru-Glo TFO sights were added. Gotta get it to the range. Bob
