Seeking information on collectible Hi Power 9mm target models
One of the pistols on my “to buy” list is a Browning Hi Power. I would like to find something I can enjoy shooting and that is collectible. The gun must have target sights, the early high polish blue, and ideally be something I can buy with my C&R… My initial research shows me “T” series guns. What would you guys recommend to meet my requirements??

I have owned a lot of HPs. Owned all of the T models at one time
or another. All shot very well. A few years ago I ended up with a
Procomp. Not blue, it's kind of Parkerized grey and sights look
cheap made out of stampings. I bought it right just as trading
stock. It was NIB, had no intentions of shooting it. Brother talked
me in to shooting it, turned out to be most accurate HP I've ever
shot. I don't know much about it, it's a FN? Orphan of Browning?
If I was buying one to shoot this would be it. I hate the finish
and grips, but it is a shooter.

If I understand correctly, C & R requires the gun to be 50 or more years old? If so, a '66 T-Series would be the newest allowable. The T-series does have the nice blue, but target sights were not available till about '71 IIRC. You could buy an early gun and have target sights installed, etc. but collectability would be gone. The only actual target oriented Hi Power I'm aware of is the GP model mentioned by Drm50. I've owned 3 of these and still have one. Very accurate factory Hi Powers, but the earliest of these was 1981. I had other Hi Powers with both high mounted and low mounted adjustable sights, like the one in my photo, all later than '66 though.......

Had a procomp at one time. Shot just great, but I couldn't stand that flimsy rear sight full of stamped parts. FN could have done better than that. I sold it.

I think any BHP you can afford is the best one. This one came from Aim Surp for about $435 and was an excellent shooter. I refinished it with my own ten thumbs and it didn't turn out too badly.

Being that this is the S&W Forum ....... back in the 80s and maybe earlier ..... some gunsmiths would customize .... adding S&W k-Frame adjustable sights to HPs....

Yep, I had two Hi Powers done with S&W revolver sights. Wish I'd have kept both of them. BTW, I don't believe FN/Browning ever made any Hi Powers labeled "Procomp."

I love vintage Hi Powers. The newest in the pic below is the 1972 "C" Series on the right. Its a Sport model with factory target sights. The one just to the left is a T Series and the other two are pre T Series with the internal extractor.
The T Series and prior never came with factory target sights, as far as I know.
These are all mint and I don't shoot them much. I have a couple newer models that I shoot more.

Well, my opinion find a nice "T" series and see how it shoots. I have a 1967 T that is kind of a rare variation, unfortunately the finish was shot when I got it. That gun will shoot to the sights at 21 feet and if you believe in the old adage you can tell how well a gun is tuned by how close to empties land to each other. I can fired one round, have someone put a ball cap where the first empty lands, the rest of the magazine will go in the cap.
The front sights on the old BHP's are a little taller than the old 1911 nubs, so they aren't too bad. LPA makes an adjustable rear sight ($90.00 from Brownell's) that is made to go with the stock front sight and does not require any modification. They appear to be the old MMC sights under a new name.

That's called the FN/Browning GP Competition.
You can read more about it in the link below. I have a lot of Hi Powers, but the GP is the only model I included in the guide...
