SIG LEGION
Who has a Sig Legion or a Ruger 1911 in 9mm and can tell me about their accuracy and over all performance I know they are two different pistols but I have been thinking about getting both.
I would like to hear first hand experience.
Thanks in advance.

Do a search on the forum for the legion pistols - they've been discussed a few times.
I own two - a 229 DA/SA and a 226SAO. 100% reliable, more than accurate enough for a fighting pistol, great features.... they are Sigs. When it comes to a high quality semi auto pistol, Sigs will always be at the top. The legions are just factory models with factory "custom" upgrades, well worth the extra $ in my opinion.
I can't speak to the Rugers - never shot one.

I don't have a Sig Legion but I own 6 Sig Pistols and all of them run flawlessly and are accurate. Like inspcalahan said they have some custom features that make the pistol desirable to long time Sig owners. My 6 run great so I see no need to upgrade but a lot of owners want the latest.

There seems to be some problems with the finish on the Legion models. Check it out. Sig does make a great pistol, however.

SIG-Sauer's Legion Series - Topic
THE long running thread over on the SIG forum.
"Sodacan" posted there were finish issues, first I'd heard that.
I've fired two of them a 229 and a 226 and thought they were dandy for the asking price.

All Legion upgrades can be done to any SIG with three exceptions: the extended beavertail, the finish and the Legion grips.
So start there. If you want an extended beavertail and you like the metallic gray colored finish, then see how many of the standard Legion features you like or want. If you like most or all of the features, then the Legion is likely the gun for you.
If you do not like extended beavertails (like me), or the finish, then take a look at the Legion features, and select a gun that has as many as possible, or order the parts or kits to upgrade the gun. There are short reach triggers, short trigger reset kits, sight options, etc. Hogue makes grips similar to the Legion type. In fact, Hogue makes most of the specialty and wood SIG grips for them.

A little off topic-ish, but I bought a sig P6 over the summer and I love it as a base model. Many of the legion features would be neat, but I paid $450 for my gun and the only feature I feel that I NEED is night sights (they go on all my carry guns). I could care less about the SRT (as a revolver guy, the stock trigger is fine), the legion finish, or grips.
Like Brian said, check out the feature list and you might be able to get into a cheaper sig with everything you want.

I have a 36 year old West German P6. It was a police trade-in. A terrific pistol in its own right. I gave up on my P239 when I got it. It is a little bigger and heavier, but better built, just as reliable, and for me, more accurate. Single stack pistols are my first preference. It would make an excellent model to modify, and could be done cheaper than buying the new model. I also have a Stainless Elite P229 (bought a few years ago) which does not have the same bells and whistles as the Legion, but is close enough for me that I feel owning the Legion would pretty much be a lateral move. Also, as I said in a previous post, check out some of the problems with the peeling finish. I saw a few photos, and I would be unhappy if I owned one.

I have a P225 from the 1990s and really like it.
Supposedly the P225A1 will eventually come out in 357 SIG. Planning on picking one up when they do.

I can't speak for SIG, but do love my new Ruger SR1911 LWCMD in 9mm.
Very accurate and mild recoil, shot to the sights right out of the box.

I recently purchased a 229 Legion, I love the trigger, trigger reset, sights and the accuracy. Over 500 rounds no failures of any kind.
