Default Let's see your non-budget AR's

Guys

I see frequently how cheap someone can put together
an AR, and how many replies the thread gets, a bunch.

This thread is not for you.

This is the thread for you to show the best AR (accurate)
you own.

And spending under $700 doesn't have anything to do with
it.

Photos are my latest Colt Competition Expert Gen 2 18T
Topped with the Colt 30mm cantilever mount, and
illuminated Leupold 2x12 Vx-6

I could go on about the features, but the target pretty
much says it all. Just south of 1/2",
with Black Hills 69 grain Sierra Match Kings.

Would love to see yours.

I'm not saying what I've got into this gun, but I would
guess some of you are way North of me.

Well, this L129a1 (British issue DMR) clone t'weren't inexpensive:

Needs more dust and weird green British fabric tape on the front end to look right!

I bought this Colt M4 Carbine or whatever they call it, several years ago. At the time I also had a HBAR, but have since sold it. This one is shown with a Weaver K-10, and it will shoot just about one minute, 10 round groups with my target handloads. I find the barrel has to be kept really clean for best results. The blast from that recoil reducer is pretty fierce: it blew the range bag (not light) right off the bench once.

This is a LMT-MWS (Modular Weapon System). Sort of the civilian version of Jaymoore's above. The scope is a Leupold 4.5x14. It ain't no lightweight but it is some kinda shooter!

This is the "what if Hillary gets elected" 5.56mm AR I built earlier this year.

Won't bore with too many specs. Faxon 20" Gunner barrel, Alexander Arms G10 handguard, Geissele 3GS trigger, Meprolight M21 reflex, yadda yadda yadda. I don't 3 Gun but it would be a pretty decent starter rifle for the Practical division (especially if I got a magnifier).

Next up is converting another 5.56mm AR I own to 6.5 Grendel.

I have my AR on a Bushmaster lower that changed a little over the years.

This was right after the AWB expired:

This is now:

And I prefer it over the G36 but it is nice to get the ammo paid for by someone else.

That green dunce cap is mine.

Here is my precision AR. It features a 20 inch 1:8 Shilen barrel, 3 lbs. Timney single stage trigger, Gibbz Arms G4 side charging upper and 13 3/8 inch handguard, Spikes NIB Bolt Carrier Group and lower receiver, Tubbs flat wire buffer spring, and a DPMS A2 stock with a rifle buffer tube. Out of the gate it was easily under 1 MOA using a cheap 100 dollar 3-9 scope picked up at a local gun show and with the 3-12 power Nikon M-223 that is now mounted to it I've managed to shoot consecutive 3 shot groups under 3/10 inch at 100 yards. As for the cost, I refuse to add everything up because I'd probably kick myself for spending that much. However it is a heck of a good shooter.

Don't have many ARs, but this is the least budget-y:

H&K MR556A1, since I like overpaying for two letters. Also have an MR762A1 but I don't think I've ever taken a photo yet.

I'm guessing this won't be tacticool enough to satisfy many folks, but this is my White Oak Service Rifle upper. It gets the job done when I do my part. That target was shot with iron sights.

I refuse to sit down and calculate what this has cost me:

It is my favorite rifle though. It's capable of shooting 1/2MOA groups if I do my part. Mostly it just under 1MOA with Wolf Gold.

It's not a "budget" AR, but it is a labor of love and not anything like it started out. A new piece here, new optic there, new trigger or two. It's an ongoing experiment, but I think I've got it about right at the moment.

So far,
CMT billet lower, $250
Spikes enhanced LPK w/o trigger, $60
ACT trigger, $70
VLTOR buffer tube/buttstock, $200
Spikes buffer, $50
BCM bcg, $200
VLTOR MUR, $175
KAC folding micro rear sight surplus USMC off ebay $60
Troy Ind. folding front sight, $90

Still looking for a barrel and handguards. For the moment its got a decent premium PSA upper with FN CL barrel and nice handguards. I might end up just swapping upper receivers for the MUR and calling it a day, since the barrel and handguards are good to go.

Buddy of mine has at least $2500 sunk into his AR and can't get it to feed three rounds in a row.

I love this thread! I stopped posting in the M&P15 section of the forum because it is dominated by cheap rifles like the Sport II and comparable guns. Not that there is anything wrong with it them but it gets old

This is my go to AR15.

-BCM Lower.
-BCM Gunfighter Stock
-BCM Gunfighter grip
-BCM Assembled lower parts (Except Trigger)
-LaRue Tactical MBT-2s Trigger
-Aero HK style Flip up Sight
-14.5" BMC Enhanced Lightweight Barrel with Pinned Gunfighter Mod 1 comp (Factory Assembled)
-BCM Bolt & Charging Handle Mod 4
-13" KMR Rail (Original not Alpha)
-BCM Short Keymod Vertical Grip
-BCM Keymod Sling Quick Detach
- Aimpoint T2 2 MOA Red Dot mounted on LaRue LT751
-HSP Inforce WML Black light mounted on BCM Keymod Modular Light Mount

I run it with a Troy padded 2 point sling. This is setup as a all around defense gun but mainly it is used to ring steel from 50 to 200 yards. It out shoots my skills and is able to do submoa in the right hands. I bought some of the items used some new but I have about $2000 in the rifle.

I also have a BCM upper with a 16" Enhanced Fluted Barrel with a KMR (Original) factory assembled. It has an Aimpoint Pro and Mapul Pro sights on it. Also has a BCM bolt and Mod 4 charging handle. It runs on a Aero lower I assembled with a BCM lower parts kit and stock and tube. Many of the same accessories as the gun above. This is the backup gun to the 14.5" It has provem 100% reliable and I trust it! This one has less than $1500 in it including the sight.

Finally I have a older LEO marked Colt 6920 with the carrying handle that I put a Magpul grip & CTR stock. I installed a Geissele SSA large pin trigger. I also replaced the rail with a Surfire quad rail which was a nice drop in for its time. It has a ARMS rear backup sight. It has used to have the Aimpoint Pro on it but these days it has either a Primary Arms Red Dot or 1X6. Back in the day I paid $1100 for this rifle plus about $600 for the other mods. I still have all the original furniture. I often think about putting it back to stock.

My other builds are lower priced builds to suit a very narrow purpose. In general my AR15 needs are pretty covered.

I Only have one here.
It is in 204 Ruger built for this clown.
My son.

The upper is a DPMS 24" stainless fluted and has an OPS Inc. brake.
Has a RRA 2 stage trigger.

This was from it's first range session.
First group on paper
Note it was only 50 yards but I sure was happy with those 4 shots

Da** Paul, that's well under a 1/4". What does it do at 100 yds? I'd bet close to the same. I finally broke down and bought a AR earlier this year, and this week started to load for it. Just a straight from the box DPMS, but the only outing it had did right at 1" at 100 yds with Fed. 55gr ball. I put together some loads with 55 gr JHP's and Varget yesterday. I did put a 2-7 Vortex on it, considering it would be a battle rifle not a long range gun.

Bought a DDM4 SPR to start. Replaced the trigger, added a Leopold 3X9, shot it, and said good enough @ 7/8".

The most accurate AR15 I currently own is a Remington R15 18" carbine. Bought it specifically for coyote hunting, and other than practice on varmints, that's all it's used for. Originally had an EOTech 552 on it, but switched to a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x scope. Added a Magpul winter trigger guard and a green Hogue grip.

Colt LE 6940, so far just out of the box. Am thinking about scope or sight, but in reality the flip up sights that come on it are great for the distances encountered around here.

I didn't know squat about ARs, so I just spent too much on this 6920 with the Magpul pretties. I figured it might hold some value. Since then I'm trying to learn a little.

Default I have a few that meet this criteria.

Lets find some pics. The first one is a Diamond Billet receiver with a side charge upper with a Pac Nor barrel and an IOR Valdada 10X56 scope. The second one is a S&W Performance center 20" bull barrel model with a Schmidt and Bender 3X12X50 scope on it. The third one is a Noveske Rogue hunter with a Leupold VX 6 1X6 IR scope. And the last one is a NIB Colt HBAR Match. And I have a couple more kicking around somewhere.

I have not even been to the range with this one yet. Hoping that while I am off the week after Thanksgiving I will get a chance to go shooting. If I do I will update this post with target pics.

You probably saw it when I first put it together a couple months ago. 16" 1:8 free float upper from CBC that I added a BC assy and CH from AIM Surplus to. Stuck it on a lower I had sitting around and put a A1 stock on it. The A1 turned out to be a bit short for prone shooting so I changed it to a A2 stock. That one works better. The scope is a Vortex 4-12x and I have about 4 different kinds and weights of ammo to try in it.

Never been a big fan of the AR platform, but it's better than the mini 14. Serving in the Air Force and as a career LEO, I've carried one pretty much all my life. Nevertheless, I still keep one around in case the SHTF. Nothing fancy, just a basic Colt M4.

Thumbs up

In the first pic is is my $607.21 (including my Fieldsport red dot sight, UTG hand guard, and PSA Premium non logo BCG) Ruger AR-556.
In the second pic is my almost 5 year old $589.12 M&P Sport 1. I took the NcStar carry handle off of my AR-556 and put it on my M&P. This is the Sport 1 with the 5R barrel. And, it's very accurate!

Just put a new Leupold VX-R FireDot Scout Scope on my LWRC. It shot great with the AimPoint red dot, now I will see what it will do with a 1.5x5 30mm scope.

Daniel Defense upper assembly, Spikes lower I put together with a Rock River match trigger. Its the wifes rifle so I gave her an H2 buffer and the Aimpoint, she loves it.

Here's a bone stock Colt with an ACOG on it that wasn't expensive until I added the glass.
