Merry Christmas everyone!

Now to the point. A while back I posted a thread asking for help choosing a patrol shotgun for work. I decided to go with the Mossberg 590a1. When I picked gun up at the ffl I was impressed and happy with my choice. The thing is a freaking tank! I got the 18.5 barrel 6+1. I even went ahead and ordered some magpul furniture and an extension for S&J.

Well I haven't had a chance to clean it or shoot it yet but last night I got some shells from a buddy of mine. This morning I inserted the shells into the magazine to just do a simple function check. I cycled 5 rounds and all seemed to be going well but the 6th round would fail to eject and would be stuck at the receiver end of the mag. This happened every time I repeated the following steps. I would have to physically push in the action bar to make the shell fall out.

At this point I'm disappointed, especially since this is a highly touted, quality gun. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem.

What should I do? Should I clean it and see if it continues to happen or should I go ahead and call mossberg after the holidays are over? This is a shotgun and I don't see why it shouldn't operate even when not initially cleaned from the factory. The gun is not dry and still contains the lube from mossberg.

When I first got mine I had to replace the cartridge interuptor and cartridge stop. They seems to be bent inward causing feed problems. I called Moss CS and told them what I wanted and they sent me a new set right away.

However your problem may be different. You said you got the shells from a buddy, I'd try some new fresh shells before I make that call. The shells he gave you might be bent or defective in some way causing the problem. I hope the magazine extension tube came with a new longer spring also? Or try it a few times without the extension. Chances are its a simple issue and Im sure you'll be pleased in the end.

Merry Christmas to you and yours also.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I hope I can get this straightened out.

About the shells, they were brand new federal 00 Buck and federal tactical slugs. It did it will both rounds, which ever one was last in the tube would not extract.

I keep saying failure to extract but maybe it's failure to feed. The reason I'm saying extract is because it will not extract from the end mag tube. It just stays in the mag tube.

A good cleaning and flushing of the action may help. If you haven't already done so you might check the integrity of the magazine spring and the follower. The spring may be damaged. If the follower is plastic, as many are these days, it may be damaged, have bad edges, or be non-concentric. Make sure the follower will slide down the open tube freely.

I would also check and clean the interior of the magazine tube. The tubes can also benefit from a coating of some kind of quality "dry lube", like Super Lube Dry Film Lubricant, or Liquid Wrench Dry Lubricant spray.

The cartridge stop and it's malfunction is also a known issue..........

What if you just put one round in the mag tube, do you still get fte? Anyway, I would try actually firing it before you send it back or call CS. And rack it with authority.

My Mossberg would be finicky in regards to 3-inch shells but would shoot 2 3/4 inch shells just fine.

I dont want to slam Mossberg but it seems this problem would have been fixed by now. I had my trouble around five years ago when mine was new.

I googled problems 590A1 and found a bunch of YT videos on this feed subject.

I gonna have a guy at work who is a mossberg armorer look at it and tell me what he thinks.

I called mossberg and like I suspected they are closed until Wednesday.

If it was mine, I'd break it down and wipe out all the factory 'lube'. Some of that stuff is more akin to 'rust preventive', on order of cosmoline, than lube.

Check for stray burrs or extraneous bits of whatever, lube her back up and see if the misfeed remains.
