Thought some guys might find this interesting. These were made from 2000-2002. It has a ported barrel which isn't to everyone's liking, but it's a pretty cool rifle, IMO.

I picked up several guns from my brother. This is one of them. I haven't shot this one, yet.

I don't guess there were a lot of them made, but I can't say for sure. Anybody else have one?

Nice, very nice. My 1894 is a Cowboy Limited and it's a great rifle. Don't know if anything was modified for the use of the .44 Special (marked on barrel for .44 Mag or .44 Special), but it feeds and shoots my favorite Lyman 250gr #429421 LSWC just fine. Haven't got around to shooting any Magnums yet. That's a very nice configuration you have there. Enjoy that one!

I have one in 45-70 that is a great brush gun when hunting. Small enough to carry in the thickets and enough punch to put a big brown bear down. The porting is not a problem when you need the protection, it just takes away any desire to have fun at the range.

Don't have one because I gave up looking! They are hard to find and expensive when they do show up. Yours has some terrific wood and looks great. The ports can be a pain when shooting lead bullets as they can get gummed up. Just extra cleaning or shoot jacketed. I think that gun would be great with Hornady 265 gr. JSP's, the one made for the 444.

Congratulations on acquiring a great one.

Thank you. My favorite firearms are lever rifles and revolvers. Maybe I was a cowboy in a previous life. LOL.

I also have an 1894C Marlin in .357 and an 39A in .22lr. Both are NIB. My favorite, however, is an 1897 Cowboy in .22lr. It has an octagonal barrel.

The Marlin's are fine rifles. I've got a early 70's Marlin in 45/70 which I use for everything.
I recently picked up this 1892 Winchester that was converted to 44 Magnum. It shoots nice with my cast SWC 429421 / 19grs 2400 reloads.

My brother didn't want to part with this one. I had to agree to buy four other guns as a package deal. LOL. The other guns were inexpensive shotguns and a Henry Golden Boy .22lr.

I've got an 1894P .44 mag I bought new. It has an AO scout mount and I can't remember if I put a Leupold or Burris scout scope on it. It has sat in the back of my safe for years and I don't think I've even shot a box of shells through it.

I never had the ported, but the 1894 I bought in the early 1980s was an excellent rifle. When I got orders to SE Alaska in 1984 I bought a new Redhawk to go with it so I could just shoot .44 magnum. That little lever action was perfect for the smaller Sitka blacktail deer that inhabit the coastal areas up there. Stupidly traded the Marlin in about five years later and have regretted it ever since. Once the cowboy action stuff got popular, used lever action rifles in handgun calibers became very scarce and way overpriced.

Mine would not stablize a bullet. .429,.430,.432 ... nothing would shoot in it.
I understand the bore is oversized compared to most revolvers.

And recoil seems to be much heavier than I anticipated based on my experience with handguns. Sold that sucker first chance.

I've got the Marlin 1894CS in .38/.357, and the 1895G in .45-70. Love them both, and am always on the lookout for the .44. Few and far between, and the couple I've seen were priced outrageously. Nice rifle. Enjoy . . .

I've had a couple 44's. Both were good shooters. Sold one back in the early 80's and recently traded one for a 657-3 6" that I just had to have. If I had one of those short barreled guns like Blackdeuce it wold not get away. The Henry Golden Boy is a nice gun too. I really like mine. Never saw a lever gun I didn't like. ( never saw a 41 mag I didn't like either ;) )

The Henry's are pretty cool. Two of my boys have Henry lever 22's and they really have fun with them. They can shoot pretty well with the open sights. :)

Such nice Marlins! I have a...*cough* Remlin 1895SBL .45/70.

While it's a good rifle, I really want to stumble across an original stainless Guide Gun (the early 2000s ones) and thread it for a suppressor. Unfortunately most of the guys with one know they have something special and want big bucks! I could get a new GS but not quite the same...

You have a beauty there you will enjoy it. I’ve never tried the ported models, don’t imagine it is any less fun.
I was just looking at my levers last weekend. I took a few pics of the lever family since I had them out.
From the top down, a Marlin Cowboy Special octagon in 357/38spec, a Marlin 39A 22lr, a Rossi/Interarms 92 in 44mag, a Winchester 94 in 30-30 from 1954 and a Winchester 9422M in 22mag. All of them are fun to shoot. I tend to look for non-checkered models, but if a nice checkered one show up for the right price I’d grab it.
