Dumped the Taurus 65 today....
Well, bought it on a whim, but it was not very attractive, to say the least. Traded pretty much across for a Uberti Single Action 1890 in .357 that was immaculate. Hope I did okay, but I figured how much worse could anything be than a Taurus that I couldn't hardly get a nibble on at the gun show? Almost got a 32-20 1920's S&W, but the guy wouldn't budge on the price ($500). At least the Uberti has some style vs. the Taurus.

I wouldn't judge good or bad by attractiveness and gun show interests. Maybe Cali is different due to what's allowed and when it was last allowed but here they're typically bought by people who just want a gun for the house. They're typically cheaper than a S&W and not Scarry looking

Well, I got exactly two bites on the Taurus...last guy said he didn't want to embarrass me with his offer...but I took it. I had purchased a Security six two weeks after I had bought the Taurus...and the other guns in the safe just laughed at the Taurus afterwards and called it names...well, that's what I heard!

Cali is different in more ways than you know...ugly black guns are dangerous! Ar15's are only used to mow down innocent people! Protect the children! If it saves only one life! No wonder they call this state the land of fruits and nuts...Granola town. Did see a great t-shirt with the Starbucks logo holding rifles...I love my coffee and my guns...would send the barristers into a frenzy in Wacko-land...

Congrats, on getting rid of Taurus. There are guys that like them.
I look on them as second class stuff, with lousy resale value. My
advice to people is to spend the Taurus money on a used S&W
or Ruger. Vastly better guns and retain their value. Different
strokes for different folks, they can have mine. I get into the
situation on trades where I have to insult guys myself. Most of
the time they already know they have a loser, but some guys get
indignant.

Not one mention as to whether the OP's Taurus functioned or not. If it shot OK, I see no reason for the hate.

Yep, Taurus makes a decent gun, for decent money, I shot one of the large hand cannon's in 44 Mag and it was very accurate and those funky grips very comfortable. I made some incredible shots with that gun, and it was well made and nicely fitted.

You did great. There isn't a Taurus made that is more fun to shoot than a Reminigton 1890 clone. And they are purty, too.

You're right, I looked at a "Tracker" a number of years ago and actually liked that and picked up a friends "Raging Bull" in 44 Magnum and found it very accurate...
While I loved my Ruger flat top from about 1961, I goofed big time and traded it, and some loot for a 1983 or so Colt New Frontier in 45 Colt, with an ACP cylinder,,, nice gun, but honestly the Ruger had recessed chambers, and was one of those very sweet guns.
I shot some full house loads in it and found it probably the most comfortable 44 Mag to shoot, much more so than my several Smiths?
So I guess we all feel that way about certain things and talk ourselves into them when we can't find what we want.

You think that your Taurus 65 isn't very attractive. I find that odd in that the appearance of Taurus revolvers is a close copy of the classic S&W design. Perhaps you will find happiness with your Uberti which is a copy of a Remington design. I don't have great experience with Taurus but, do own a 990 .22 which has proven to be both reliable and accurate. It looks an awful lot like my S&W revolvers which never laugh at my Taurus. They are far too polite to do that.

One day you will wake up and that Taurus will be like a distant far away bad dream. Now before I get flamed this is a S&W Forum if you want to stick up for Taurus find their forum.

You might want to note that this is a sub-forum for guns and knives of other brands. The OP is in the right place.
Years ago I picked up a very finish-challenged Taurus 65 for very little money. Looked like hell, balanced like a Smith 65, and shot just fine. Trigger wasn't quite up to S&W, but not bad. Needed cash in a hurry for an emergency and sold it, but never regretted buying it.

I would love to own one of the older, nicely blued Taurus .38 revolvers, but they are few and far between. The one I traded was one of two .357 four inch Taurus models currently approved by CA. It had a dull, black matte finish, not blued, and had the required key lock system. Two weeks after I had bought it, I picked up a nice Ruger Security Six, SS, four inch for $50 less than I had paid for the Taurus. Hey, used but not abused made sense! Haven't bought new ever since. When the gun show came around this weekend, and I had only $50 in my wallet, a little horse trading would be necessary. The Taurus was the victim of circumstances...yuk, yuk, yuk...

Forgive me if I missed it, but it sounds like you never shot the Taurus, you just didn't like the way it looked?
Just wondering, I'm not a huge fan. Long ago I had a Taurus 94, shot ~100 rounds through it, also used it with blanks during a rifle 3-Gun match. Next time I took it out, the barrel unscrewed itself!
Sent it back expecting repair, and instead they sent me a new one. Which sounds good, but also told me the guns were cheaper than an hour of a repairman's time. Easier to sell as BNIB, so off it went.
I briefly had an 85 about 12 years ago, no probs, but pretty much had to sell it cuz a guy was offering me dang near list price. (I think he was wowed by the CTC Lasergrip, had never seen one before.)

Never did shoot it, but before I traded it off I had added a Bersa Firestorm, a Ruger GP100 in .327, two Ruger single sixes, a New Bearcat,a K22, a K38, and a 1946 M&P Smith into the collective. They took a vote and booted the Taurus off the island. Very democratic.

I used to have a Taurus 65 that I thought was as nice a looking revolver as I've ever owned. Nice deep blue, pretty wood grips...very comfortable wood grips I might add. Sort of a round butt, S&W target grip. IIRC, it had a 3" barrel with a shrouded ejector rod.
I shot it a few times, liked it a lot, but like the OP let it go when some other shiny thing caught my eye. I forget what I got for it, but I don't remember taking a beating on it.

Insulted? I recently ran an ad in the local paper for a very clean SW 642, for $340.00. Guy offered me $200.00 for it. I told him that was an insult and ''this gun isn't a Hi Point.'' He didn't seem to get it, because then he offered $225.00. I shook my head and told him no again.

I've learned not to be insulted by "lowball" offers. I think a lot of them come from dealers looking for something they can sell at a profit. A gun I think is worth $500.00 is probably only "worth" $300.00 to them.
Like I say..."Make an offer. What's the worst thing that can happen? They'll say no?"

I often wonder about the guys carrying around guns at guns shows trying to sell them to dealers. They're often trying to sell a used gun at full suggested retail to a dealer who can order them new at wholesale prices. It's just not going to happen.

I just recently bought a SS Taurus 66, 4" barrel, and happen to like it very much. I could care less about what the Taurus hating critics think. At the end of the day, the only one that it matters to is me!
I have owned several Ruger .357's. Security Six, Service Six, and Speed Six. My favorite of all of them was my 9mm Speed Six. I am still kicking myself for selling that one.

True. The dealers are there to buy low and sell high, and it's their living (mostly). But there are enough people that come in to sell that don't care about taking a loss, they just want to get rid of a gun, or don't know what the true value of the gun they have is.

You can bash and hate Taurus all you want. Taurus certainly is no S&W but I do hear about more problems with Smith guns than I do with Taurus. I never had a bad Taurus revolver and every one of them shoots great and accurate as can be. Too bad though that Smith prices are not at the same level as Taurus so I can buy more but it takes me all year to buy just one.

I bought a 2" Taurus Ti. model quit a few years ago. I've put 1,500 - 2,000 rounds of assorted 38 special and .357 Magnum ammo through it. Its always functioned just fine, but I would not want it to be my only firearm. It lives in the break down bag in the trunk of my car.

Possible, but HIGHLY unlikely. If money was not a consideration, no one would buy a Taurus.

from what has been online over the years since you made this comment, the risk of a poorly built taurus is EVEN STEVENS with the risk of a poorly built Smith revolver made after 2000.
canted barrels come to mind.
And yeah everyone would love a smith, but the smith revolver everyone seems to drool over was built before 1990.

An almost six year old thread and the OP appears to have lost all his guns in a fire four years ago when he last posted. Thread closed.
