Default Let The Price War Begin

With Smith &Wesson all in on this firearm rebate.Just wondering why another large firearm maker didn't jump all in with a sizeable discount on the front side with out rebate.Me spending over 35 years in retail(Auto Service managment) The big chains I worked for would spend millions on the rebate game. The stats on Auto rebate return (lets say was tires) Usally only showed a return of rebate in 18/20%. I am sure the case on Smiths rebate will be a bit higher. My self never been a big rebate biter. Your thoughts please?

Never much cared for rebates. If I was in market for new it would have to be a consideration.

I think Springfield is offering free mags with some of their pistols now too.

Yes they where doing that two years ago when I bought my X D S . I did take advantage of that to get the magazine's. But that was never a deal breaker for me. I had my sights on X D S for long time before that. I will tell you I had magazines in 8 days after paper work sent. Awsom

It kind of depends on the rebate for me. I had a $1,000 rebate on a truck once and you can bet I sent in for that. I also took advantage of a $100 rebate on RCBS a few years ago. A one dollar rebate on a bottle of booze will probably get thrown away.

Since you can now buy a S&W Shield w/ rebate for under $250 bucks I doubt if Smith is making much money on them, they probably just over produced thinking that Hillary was going to get elected. I have also seen Ruger American pistols for about $345 shipped and lots of cheap AR-15s so its a good time for a buyer.

I've been mulling over a single stack 9mm for a long time and at that price it's getting harder to keep looking away. That's $200 less than a Glock 43. I think I paid that for a Kel Tec PF-9 some years ago.
Of course, as soon as I buy it I'll find the 2.75" 69 I've been patiently waiting for as I walk out the door.

I think they're either trying to move these before the 2.0 or they were anticipated something that did not happen and got stock with excess inventory they need to move. Maybe others had the same anticipation but made less or don't need to move as much inventory

Remington screwed me out of $50 on an 870 rebate year before last. Some don't play the "game" fairly, either.

Yes very true in the rebate game down right fraud. The big tire chains are guility of fraud all the time . They would rather let their store manangers here all the complaints and still nonthing about. Some have been in court over it time after time. Dont fall for the $50.00 visa scam.

Just my opinion, which may not be worth the price you pay for it-

a lot of the cheaper polymer carry guns were selling because of the political environment, the idea that they were about to not be available anymore, so get one (or more) while you can. My opinion is, while there IS a market for these, a lot of buyers are like most of us- we already have one or more guns, and just wanted to be sure we could get something else before it was banned.
Same thing with the ARs- some wanted to get one while they could, others wanted to get "one more" just in case.

What happened- most of us who wanted to get one while we could, did. And now, with the political change, "getting one more" isn't so pressing or time-limited.

At this point, I'm not interested unless you practically pay me for one; I'm looking for guns I enjoy, for the collection. I have the cheap tool that I may never need and don't enjoy at the range; and if I need another to take it's place, they're safely available and legal to purchase for now.

I dislike rebates of any sort. When you buy something with a rebate you pay full price, then pay sales tax on that full price. You send in the rebate, get it and spend it and pay sales tax on the rebate. Menard's often offers 11% rebate on all their products, but it comes as a store credit.

11% off the original purchase would be a lot nicer.

I feel like 50 percent of the time I don't see the rebate anyway. They take so long to get, I've usually forgotten about it. So how many did I forget about, and never got?

If I even remember about it, and don't get it, I wouldn't know how to go about getting it straightened out. Likely it would take more time than it would be worth.

I mail them in, with little faith.

I've been zinged in the rebate game before and it bugs the heck out of me when it happens. And in my very tight money world, a dollar in the hand is worth much more than a dollar promised to be "rebated" somewhere far down the road.

That said, there is no question that the $75 rebate on Shields means that something was seriously out of whack at the mothership over-production-wise vs. customer demand. Could have been due to the surprise election result or it just might have been simple competition from the other plastic gun manufacturers. But I'll bet they are still making money on this deal simply because plastic guns are so damn cheap to make.

Like some others, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop over at Sturm, Ruger & Company. While certainly not my highest priority (or even close), I think I'd like to have an American Compact 9mm in the collection if I can get it at the right price. It would replace my SR9c, which I would probably sell.

I think some of the opinions here are valid indeed, however, I also think the S&W rebate has a lot to do with excess inventory and the new 2.0 program. S&W has already started Armor classes for the new Shield and Bodyguard line coming this summer and early next year. Hope the 9c is part of that movement also.

If you have an excess inventory of 100,000 or more old models and you are coming out with a new line you probably want to move the old one's before the new models are announced. A rebate is a decent way to do that so as not to make the dealers take the hit.

All seems good to my mind.....Great handguns at decent prices..wish they had had this when I purchased mine.

I'm in the market for a compact something, just not quite sure what.
I saw yesterday that Beretta is offering $75.00 debit card on PX4 Storms till the end of the month.
Now I'm looking pretty hard at their compact, just need to do some more research.
Without the rebate I never would've even thought about one because of the $$
