I know that there are a lot of post 64 haters. But can get this one in excellent shape for 300.00 out the door. If it was not a 44 mag I would have no interest but being a pistol caliber I am interested. Is it worth it? Like to hear from people who shoot post 64 for info. It's in excellent shape bluing is still great and I think the stocks are very nice. Help

Yeah, that's a definite green light, especially if it in top condition. Winchesters in pistol calibers are some the most fun guns around. If you can get into one at an economic cost level, even better.

$300 for any .44 Magnum Winchester lever gun is a great price. Buy it before someone else does.

I have an early 90s 16" .44mag Winchester with the large loop (either the Wrangler or Trapper model I believe) - love it! I used to carry it as a brush gun for hogs when I was in California.

Yes, while I am a pre64 snob I would grab a nice Post 64 at $300
in any cal. In Ohio you would at least double your value, if not
more in 44mag. I doubt you could find a nice one for $600.
Because of the millions of 1894s made in 30/30 you can find a
nice pre 64 in 30/30 for $600, tad more in 32Win. So that gun
is worth as much as the average pre 64, 94 in 30/30. Buy it now.

I sold my .44 Magnum M94 to a friend and thought I gave him a good price at 500 dollars. Maybe I didn't give him the best price but I really thought I had given him a deal - twas about a year ago.

I just sold most of my Model 94s (in .30-30 [the .38-55 was a commemorative and was nearly a grand]) and all of them were significantly more than 300 bucks.

I kept my very first, still a post-64, and one -pre-64 rebarreled to .25-35. Didn't need the others and there were handguns screaming my name......

300 bucks is a great price.

Could not wait so I went and picked it up along with a marlin 39a they were holding for me. I could not be happier with both of them. The 39a has original box with all the paperwork and acces. Going to have fun at the range.

That would be double or more in my area. I recently sold a 2003 Trapper in .357 for $750.

Post back after you've shot it and tell us how it went. I've got one I haven't fired yet. The internet rumors are that some of the guns weren't fitted and don't like to cycle the magnum rounds.

Not all rumor - the later .357s/.44s could be pretty bad on the inside. It took me several complete tear downs and finish fitting and polishing to get my Trapper to cycle SATISFACTORILY. It would still jam and experience the infamous 'under lever cartridge drop' which was a real PITA. After a few years of watching the evolution of the new Henry and handling a few I decided my Winchester collection would be reduced to the traditional calibers and my .357 lever was going to be a Henry!

I generally avoid the 64 to early 70's guns. The quality and receiver finish is often pretty bad. But I'd probably buy a 44 mag in that range if truly excellent condition for $300.

Love my late-90s .357 Trapper..........fun little carbine and a great utility caliber in Pa.

Will admit it is semi-retired since I got a stainless .357 magnum Ruger 77/357 with a little Weaver 1-3x20 scope..

Back around 1998 I bought a 16" Trapper carbine in .44 Magnum for use in CAS to go with my Ruger Super Blackhawks. It worked OK for me, but I think I was the only one in the club who used one. Most everyone else used Marlins, or M92/M1873 replicas. It was difficult for me to hit much with it beyond 50 yards, but at the close ranges used in CAS, it worked fine. I used .44 Special reloads in it so I could get more rounds in the tubular magazine. I bought it at a gun show for $275, and it was in just-out-of-the-box condition. I still have it, but don't shoot it often any more. I really should because I like it.

Being mosey, since you got a deal on the 94, what did the 39a run you? Nice ones are hard to find in our market (DFW).

Sounds like a great buy on the Winchester. I haven't seen pistol caliber cartridges run very well in the '94 length action. A '92 action no problem..

I found my Winchester 94 Legacy Rifle in .44 Remington Magnum several years ago in the used rack at "PA's Largest Gun Store". Made in 2006 at the very end of real model 94's, it has the tang safety instead of the ugly crossbolt type. The long 24 inch barrel and pistol grip stock work well with a scope. I searched for well over a year to find the Redfield Lo-Pro 3-9X its wearing. You just can't tuck any other scope that low on the 94. Plus the XL tube length allowed mounting for proper eye relief.
