Default Beretta 92S, police surplus

I received my Beretta 92s used Italian Police 9mm a few weeks ago, only was able to get it to the range once. It shoots and acts very smooth. For $300, I could not go wrong. It's got a lot of wear, but no rust. The inside looks to be in very good condition (I'm no gunsmith by any means!) and since it shoots so nice and hits pretty close to what I'm aiming at, at 25 yds., I guess it was a pretty good deal. I got it from Bud's, even though I got a bad new gun from them that is STILL at the factory for repair. Another story for another day. I would recommend this piece if you want something that you'd like to play with and not be afraid to drop. Jeff T., Pgh PA

Keep it well lubed. I carried one in Kosovo as an international police officer. We had a range week in Kosovo and I was one of the range officers. Some cops are bad about not maintaining their sidearms. We found that dry Berettas jammed. We all had bottles of lube in our pockets. It just takes a few drops to make them run right.

I have been wanting to get one of these, but every place that sells them only includes a 15 round magazine and won't take the magazine out to ship to places like here in NY. I have contacted a couple and said that I would be willing to buy the gun without any mag and get a 10 round later myself, but no one seems willing to do that.

Bought a Helwan 951(Egyptian Beretta 1951 Brigadeire for $200 on a whim, not expecting much, one of the sweetest shooting guns I've ever owned.

I've bought mine from J&G sales about 10 months ago for $249.99. Condition to be about 80% of the original bluing with some good holster wear. I replaced every spring in the pistol and also the locking lug & plunger for a new 3rd gen locking lug. Took off the plastic grips and with a xacto knife & dremel tool I made a slight modification to my Hogue finger grips and now I have a smooth shooting Beretta 92 for 1/3 of the cost of a new one.... The newer 92fs barrel/slide interchanges with the older 92s to boot as well as the fs magazines. But not the m9 magazines cause those don't have the cut out near the bottom for the heel mag release on the S models.

I'm not doubting your word at all, but it seems so strange that no one would ship the gun without a magazine. Looks like that wouldn't be a problem at all, not like you're asking them for extra mags or something. Is there some kind of law in NY that says the pistol can only accept 10 round mags?

The Safe Act, and the previous AWB here since 1994 have not allowed us to have any magazines for a handgun or rifle that is detachable to be over ten rounds. So far I have asked Classic Arms, Buds Gun Shop and Aim Surplus, and none are willing to separate the gun from the 15 round magazine.

Sounds more like they just don't want to ship to NYC, and are using the mag as an excuse.

R Guns puts these up on gunbroker every so often starting around $200, I picked one up at my son's request, it went for around $250 or so.

In comparison to my 92FS ('94, LAPD):
Slide is blued instead of the Bruniton coating, trigger guard is rounded. Interesting mag release, it's at the heel but not the old lever. Takes Taurus mags as long as the have the lower notch cut. Very nice shooter, very smooth action.

They do list states that have magazine restrictions & are unable to ship to those areas. Why don't you consider the 92A1? It comes with 3-10 rnd mags.

I'll second the positive review for the Beretta 92S surplus gun. Mine has been 100% reliable for the time I've owned it, and mostly accurate though I was shooting poorly (with several guns) the last time I took it out.

I paid $329 for mine from Buds when they first got them, and it was about 85% + condition, so a great deal. The prices have gotten even better since then, due to the generally soft gun market. Now's the time to buy.

Do these older ones have a firing-pin safety?

Default Firing pin safety

Good question about the firing pin safety, so I looked at mine to see. I checked and it looks like if you have one in the chamber and the safety isn't on, hammer uncocked, that the hammer is resting on the firing pin and if dropped and it lands on the hammer, it'll go bang. Good reason to keep the safety on. I never thought to check that until you asked the question. Somebody with better Beretta 92 knowledge please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, Jeff Taylor, Pittsburgh, USA
