I found a Rossi Mdl 720 .44 Special but they want $495 bux for it. Blue book says $200 bux for 100%. The gun looks to be in very nice condition it's just the disparity between what he is asking and what the book says they are worth. I was thinking that I would have to pay some ware between $350 & $400 bux for one. What say you on the price ?

I saw one at the gun show last weekend priced at $350 IIRC. Probably could be had for around $325.
From everything I have seen, "the book" is so out of touch with real-world prices as to be just about worthless...

There are 2 different versions of the Model 720 - the "Covert model" and the one pictured by Capt. F. I have the Covert model, which has fixed sights, factory bobbed hammer and is DA only. The factory grips usually replaced with Pachmayr grips to make recoil a bit more manageable. Whatever you do, don't dry fire the piece as it has been known to cause the hammer to fracture and break. These revolvers are long out of production, and I bet replacement parts will be very difficult to find. They are a bit of a cult favorite, and I like mine, but $495.00 is extremely ambitious. I think I paid $300.00 for mine several years ago. If you really want it, and it checks out okay, I'd put $300.00 cash on the table and see if the buyer will bite.

Good luck,

Dave

I have been watching these (and looking for one, finally found). $375-425 seem to be the recent sales #s. The adj site guns seem to go for a little more. A fixed sight gun just went on GB for about $380.

Thank you all for your replies.
The revolver is the mdl 720 with the hammer and adjustable sights. $350 to $400 is what I would want to spend. The revolver was on Guns America but shows no longer available. I'll keep searching.

The "blue book'. Isn't worth the paper it's written on!!!!!!!!.....I agree with the others....$350-$400 if you really want it......The 720 preceeded the Smith 696 by about 2 years......I bought my 720(adj sights/non fluted cyl) when they were first announced.......Kept a round count to 740 rds to see if it would break......It didn't......I still have it and would be hard pressed to let it go for $400.......The later 720's came with a fluted cylinder...

Garbage, run away as fast as you can, $200 bucks is about all it's worth. I bought one from a guy I knew, but quickly got rid of it because it jammed when firing but ran smooth a silk when dry firing. Sold it and made a little money.

PRICELESS, garbage! Take 03hemi's advise and run like hell.

I have looked at the Charter Arms and I'm considering it but I'm not in a hurry to buy.

I only have one Rossi - a 971 snubby in 357 magnum - but it is a very high quality revolver. It is of an older vintage though.
I view it just like the Ford/Chevy/Dodge debate. In my experience they've all made some peaches and they've all made some lemons....

I've heard more folks say they like the Rossi 720 than dislike it.
My reason for the Rossi is the 3.00 barrel. I like that length of barrel. Eventually I'll find what is right for me.

If the 3" barrel is a big selling point for you, and you are interested in it as a CCW then I will second the recommendation for a vintage CA Bulldog.

Mine is from the early 70's, and while it is not of S&W quality, it is a good solid revolver. Best of all it is LIGHT weight. Around 2/3 the weight of my Rossi 971 snub. It fits in some of my J-frame holsters too, and is a perfect fit in a holster for an SP101.

The SP101 might be comparable to the CA Bulldog in some ways, but weight isn't one of them. Those little Rugers are HEFTY.

I'm very pleased with my Interarms/Rossi M720. It appears to be a fair, but not exact, copy of the S&W 696. Mine has reliably and accurately put 1200+ rounds downrange in the six or so months I've owned it without any issues. Don't know if it's a $500 gun, but the $300 I paid for mine was worth every penny.

I bought mine earlier this year. I'd been interested in them and when one turned up at my LGS for $250 I jumped on it.
Mine is the covert model. 3" barrel, fixed sights, fluted cylinder, factory bobbed hammer.
