Please see if you can post some good pictures.
The 'value' comments will be much more accurate if you can.....
As stated, there are just too many unknowns and $3K sounds way high.
Pictures may change my opinion.
The NSDAP Gruppe Mitte markings are desireable. There are other Gruppe markings as well, and if memory serves well, Gruppe Mitte is among the more common of them (not saying it is a common piece). Condition has a lot to do with a value estimate.

This is really something you need to ask on one of the Walther forums. I know a bit about Walther PP’s, but more post-war, and this requires more specialized collector knowledge.

I can’t quite fathom why, but some Nazi markings like that, if authentic, can indeed catapult a $500 PP into the 2- and 3-thousands. Above my pay grade .

Leaving off the '21' before the ser# and the '2' after it as they look after market hand stamped,,,the factory ser# )IMO) is 987545.
That would be a 1938 production Walther Model PP.
That would coinside with the production of the Gruppe pistols for the SA gangs.
The 'Mitte' group is one of the most common marked Walthers found of the around 30 diffdrent SA groups (Gruppe). There are couple of the groups were there are only 2 or 3 known example for a group, Some have none to show for it.

The marking is most often (always??) on the front grip strap of the PP.
** This marking is an often faked mark to hike value of a WW2 Axis pistol** It takes someone that had experience, seeing a lot of them and maybe having been burned a time or two,,to distinguish real from fantisy. Some are crude and easily dismissed, Some are just 'real'.
The marking was done by pantograph originally if I'm not mistaken, so it's nearly a fakers dream come true to start with.

The 'Mitte Gruppe' model PP pistols being so common have a large number of their ser#'s listed in order in Jan Still's book 'Axis Pistols'.
An expensive OOP book that I foolishly sold a few years back but profit can be a strong motive.

The addition of the 'extra' digits to the ser# are strange and certainly don't flatter the pistol especially from a collectors viewpoint.
Some may look at it as an attempt to disguise the original # for only one reason I can think of.
The added digits certainly put the whole # well outside of any Walther PP production range.

1938 production is the year Walther reached 1 million in the PP production and started over with the ser#s and added a 'P' after the number.

Post the pics on the Walther Forums as already suggested, You should get plenty of feedback, questions and opinions.
