The first gun I ever shot was a K-22 Target Masterpiece. The second was a K-38 Target Masterpiece.

Completely wasted on me! I couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat.

I've got a few less now that I have shared some with each of my sons and grandsons. But I've still got plenty! I can't imagine that the day would come when I could only own one caliber of firearm. But if that day should come, I would gladly retain all my .22's and be very pleased to have them. I don't go elephant hunting any more, but I could make meat and tend to predators with that caliber pretty well, I think!

Wellll, this is embarrassing. I didn't know for sure so I did a sort on my excel spreadsheet and came up with a total of 42. A mix of rifles and handguns. Plus, I have another on layaway so I guess it's a total of 43.

Not embarrassing, Sir! You may not have known the exact number off the top of your head, but your record keeping skills made it possible to quickly take inventory! And it appears that you always have the correct tool to harvest any squirrrels or cottontails, etc that might present themselves, or perhaps thin the vermin in your immediate area! And you can also fondle anyone of them you choose at most anytime you chose! I dunno about you, but all my .22 caliber firearms cause me to smile anytime I see or hold one of them. Good therapy and very calming! Congratulations, Sir!

I started out thinking I had a few too many but after reading these replies I know I don't. I felt better about it until I now realize I'm the runt of the litter amongst you all.
I'm starting to feel bad about not having enough.
I do have a Nylon 66 on the way that will help for a while!

I had to check. Looks like 17 if I count the Mossberg "Brownie" which is missing some parts and will likely never shoot again. 5 handguns, the rest rifles. Seems I am slacking some.

I'm afraid .22's have fallen a bit out of favor with me, and I think it started with the inexplicable .22 ammo shortage of 2013. I've picked up a couple of .22's since then - an old beater mossberg and a Ruger 22/45 which I really like (aside from reassembly) - but I don't actively seek out or shoot .22's much anymore. I think the only exception would be if I found a vintage Smith revo in .22 at a decent price (which they aren't). I now collect .38 Specials kind of like other people collect .22's.

But it was only 1978.

Edit. Ironically, the State put in my hands a 9mm P38 pistol and a .308 G3 rifle before I was old enough to legally own a firearm.

More than one of each!

Okay, okay. I understand the reasoning that ".22's are fun to shoot," etc., etc. But many of you are missing the very practical side of owning a bunch of .22's.

You see, if and when the proverbial "ship hits the sand," so to speak, people who currently don't own a firearm will be looking to acquire one. The one they will most likely want is a .22 simply because of its practicality and its ease to shoot. Where are they going to get one? The LGS has been sold out for weeks, maybe even months. They are desperate.

That's when you come in. "Yes," you say. You just happen to have an extra .22 they can have for a reasonable sum.

Not only that, most of us who own more than one .22 also have a considerable amount of .22 ammo on hand. I mean, who knows when we'll have an apocalyptic explosion of the jack rabbit population? It pays to be prepared. Also, for those individuals who only own one firearm, it's probably a .22. As a result, when society as we know it becomes a veritable turmoil, .22 ammo will undoubtedly become one of the great bartering items.

So you see, there's a very practical side of owning several .22's. In reality, we aren't collecting .22's. No, we are just preparing to help out our friends and neighbors in case of a societal disaster.

So, my fellow .22 owners, keep up the good work. Keep collecting .22's. Our society may need you in the future.

Was gonna take two Stevens Model 75 22 pumps like my dad had (still have his) to my pawn shop guy to sell but after thinking about it some more will be keeping them. Gotta keep up with you guys.

I'm going to the Tulsa show on the eleventh of this month. I just might try to pick up a couple of .22s. They are surely there. Many you've never seen.

When I see what is on display for sale, I am humbled and go home and throw rocks at my old stuff.

When you use a large caliber to harvest your game you attract predators from miles away when they hear the sound, you increase your chance of becoming the prey. So your homework and the nice and quiet 22 will harvest any game on this continent and few will hear it.

Pretty nice looking old Remington 550-1 came out of pawn today. From the '50s, I believe. The manager was about to put it on GunBroker, but I told her to lean it in the corner till payday next week, and I'll take it home. Looks like it will clean up very nicely. Good winter project.

I had four.

Stirling Model 14 with 4 X 32 scope, suppressor and stramtlight mounted above the scope.

Norinco copy of Browning pump action take down model.

Stevens single shot (most accurate .22 I have ever owned. Best shot? Over 50 meters uphill at a rabbit hidden in some rushes. I could only see the top half of it's ears so aimed below them with Stinger .32 gn hyper velocity round. 1 shot and that rabbit did a summersault 3 feet in the air before dropping straight back to earth and never moved again).

The Norinco and Stevens were stolen in a burglary a few months ago. Today I feel the need for a lever action .22. There is a Henry "Golden Boy" that has been calling to me in a sports shop I will be passing later today. Would make a great companion form by Henry Big Boy rifle.

I was like that, there are so many rifles, pistols. I could go to gun show and almost always return with one. I have approx. 15 rifles and 25 pistols in .22. Plus four rifles and 6 pistols in .22 magnum.
I do give them to grandchildren though.
I once bought an old 1935 smith, it took 40 minutes to clean it but i
hit a can at 25 yards the first time.
I decided to cut down on my guns, looked at the .22s, found one I could get rid of, but didn't
Maybe i will donate to a local FHA or Boy Scout group.

Got a passel of Ruger .22s, an old Remington rolling block and a birth year K22 but....

This is my very first brand new Smith & Wesson. What's one more?

I remember telling the wife about all the money I'd save shooting rimfire vs centerfire. What a load of BS that was. In the last ten year I bet I've spent more money on rimfire guns & ammo than centerfire... while still shooting as much centerfire as always!

The Golden Boy was a bit too rich for my waller at this time. Looked at the basic blue/wood Henry .22 lever action but ended up with a Chiappa LA322 for half the cost.

Can't wait for it to arrive and take it to the range.

I won’t know until I cross paths with one I can’t live without. Currently my 4” 17-6 is scratching my .22 hangun itch.

Some of the old .22 rifle's aren't worth much. Like $200 or so. I have given some thins to the local country schools. Or a father who doesn't have the money right now for his kids.
I gave a nice big tent to a country school. Their school was the only one that didn't have a walk around tent at a track meet.

If you are talking afour various forearms in .22 LR calibre (for LVSteve) then 31.
As far as ammo; 1,743,352 rounds.

I have 13 .22's. Three semi-auto rifles, one bolt-action, two semi-auto pistols, two double action revolvers, five single-action revolvers. Only two are S&W's, a 617 and a pre-17. I don't think I have enough.

There is no such thing as too many .22s. Just look in my safes.

Five 22 revolvers are all I have, with no more planned. The newest one dates to 1953. The group consists of a K-22 Outdoorsman (1939), K-22 Combat Masterpiece (1953), K-22 Masterpiece (1947 "LERK"), H&R "22 Special" (circa 1935), and a Colt Officers Model Special 4th issue (1950). At least one of them goes on every trip to the range.

I just trust my instincts to tell me when I've reached a reasonable limit on pretty much anything. For .22s, apparently 13 isn't it.

While talking about this thread with "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (SWMBO), I mentioned I had almost Twenty-Two, 22's. She didn't realize that she has now endorsed the idea of "Quanty By Caliber." So not only 22-22's but 32-32's, 38-38's, 44-44's, and most important of all ONE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED ELEVEN of 1911's! I'm going to need a few more gun safes just for handguns.

I remember way back when I was young and dumb, I would look, and drool, over many guns. When I would look at the prices, I noticed that the price for a .22 caliber revolver/pistol was many times close to the price for a “real gun” like a .38, 9mm, .357 magnum, or a .44 magnum. I figured there was no way I was going to spend that much for a gun wanna be. Remember, I said dumb.

Now that I am older and wiser, I probably have more guns in .22 caliber than any other, and I cherish each and every one. As for the question from the OP, NOW, there is never too many .22’s!

I don't believe in the idea of too many, but I do understand not enough. Ever since I purchased my Remington 40XB, back in 2012, I lust for tack driving target rifles.

I don't know how many .22s I have, but it's something over fifty. I love the single shot Winchester boy's rifles. I have at least one of every model single shot .22 that Winchester has made. I also have nearly one example of all their pre 64 .22 repeaters. I don't have nearly all the variations, that would take a couple life times. I have my share of S&W .22 revolvers and a few other brands. I am still on the quest for more and better. You can't have too many .22s. Going to Tulsa next month, I might buy a .22.
