About a couple weeks ago, late at night and sleepy, I read a review of a new semi-auto (brand unknown) that held 4 rounds of .45 ACP in the magazine and 1 round in the chamber. Very small, very light.

OK, while I have a 5-round J-Frame, this looked like a little smaller pistol with five rounds, except it shot five. 45 ACPs

Can't find it on Google or in my browser history. Has anyone come across something like this, because it looks to me like the ultimate back up gun.

Going to go to sleep now and maybe dream the brand name, because I really want to find out more about it.

Ciao,
Jeff

Glock makes a pretty small .45, 5 shot..might be 6. The model 36. I have one..never shot it. It's not really "new" to the mnrket, though. My 30 is about as small as I want to go with the .45 round and actually use it. :)

If it's older you could be thinking about the Semmerling LM4.

Honestly... truly NOTHING quite like it. Manually operated repeater, very small. 4+1 rounds.

I think the concept has merit, especially when you consider the market back when the Semmerling was made. This idea is a darn difficult sell in this day and age, but you must give credit to this design.

G36 isn’t exactly very small. I can’t imagine a very small 45 acp.

Is it the Heizer PKO 45?

That Heizer is pretty cool - and built in Pevely, MO - just about 20 miles south of where I went to high school in Oakville, MO.

Interesting. I had never heard of Pevely, MO until a few weeks ago when I started ordering spare mags from Midwest Gunworks for my FN, now the name of that city comes up again. Guess I need to get out and about more :)

LOL, since it is a little burg of about 5500 people at least 1400 miles away from Arizona, it'd be pretty surprising if you had heard of it.

First I'd heard of the Heizer in 45 ACP. Cool little gun, but kinda pricey -- $900 from the distributor I looked at. 26 ounces and .8 inches thick, with a fixed barrel.

Has anybody ever actually seen any of these guns?

Any of what guns?

A Glock 36 is not a small gun. It is almost exactly the same size as a Glock 19. I had one for a while, carried it in a G19 kydex holster.

An XD-S is surprisingly small, much smaller than a G36. They also have a better trigger, but I suspect they are a bit snappy since they are so small. However, I have not fired an XD-S, so that is pure supposition on my part.

Never heard of Heizer until today. On their website they sell pocket size handguns chambered in .223 and 7.62 X .39.

I don't see the purpose when a small 9mm carries twice as much ammo in the same footprint (usually thinner though)

The 45 is not superior enough to the 9mm to sacrifice half the capacity

Sell it before you do - worst auto I have EVER shot. I'd much rather carry (and shoot) a five shot J frame than a G-36.
Funny thing is there are some who say a five shot revolver is marginal for self defense then buy a low cap mini .45 that is hard to control and shoot accurately.
