Would anyone have a picture of the Factory recoil pad that came on a Remington 721 300 h&h or 264 magnum.Restoring an old 300,found an original stock, but need a picture oh the recoil pad.Over the years most crumbled away much like the S&W presentation case liners.A picture of an original would help.THANKS

Google it...........a LGS I work at re-barreled 2 721's this year........both in 28 Nosler!

I did that. All the google pictures show replaced pads from who knows where.Information in books is not forthcoming. Was looking for someone who bought one new as very few guns with original pads seem to exist. This is for a restoration.

I don't have a photo, but they came with a black ventilated recoil pad. I had one years/decades ago, but unfortunately I don't remember the markings (Remington/Mershon/Pachmayr?).

It had a black rubber recoil pad.. Space between butt and pad was a series of rubber Xs that collapsed to absorb the recoil. I don't remember any markings.

My Dad borrowed 2 rifles from a hunting buddy or my younger brother and I to Deer hunt with. Little Bro got the Win M 88 in 308. I got the Rem 721 in 300 H&H. Dad's buddy took those 2 guns to Canada every year for black bear and moose.

I coveted that Rem 721. I killed my 1st buck with it.still have the little 6 point rack.

I too believe it had a black X rubber pad. But it may have been a Pachmeyer.

If you can date it try to find a shooters bible or gun digest from that year.

That was 55 or so years ago. I remember the shot, dragging it out and skinning it. I never felt it go off. I once saw one at a gun show but had several 300 Wby and 300 win mags so I passed. Ps it was not cheap.

Hope you get your info.

I got my 721 300 H&H when I was 14. It cost $81.00 new. I shot a 5 point bull elk with it a month later.
It has killed a lot of game and more predators and pests.
I still have the gun but restocked it 40 some years ago and sold the original stock at a gun show.

Might Remington have photos? The PR dept. used to send 8X10 B&W glossies to gun writers.

Their move to S. Carolina may have caused them to toss the old photos. But ask.

If it's for shooting, I think you can get better modern pads.

The 1956 Gun Digest shows a picture of the 721 in 30-06 with no pad at all. There is no picture of the.300 but it says it comes with a rubber recoil pad. My friend’s main rifle is a .300 721. If I get a chance to ask him I’ll post here what his gun has. I’m sure it’s totally stock.
Edit: Google “Remington 721 .300 H&H” then images. You’ll see many of them with the same ventilated rubber pad.

In my experience, the Remington Model 721 is one very fine rifle! Got one in 30-06. It came with a plastic butt pad which I replaced with a Pachmayer thick solid recoil pad because I needed some extra length of pull on the stock. I also owned a Model 722 in .222 Remington that I sold once upon a time thereafter. Thought I had to have a .223! I still have a bruise where I've kicked myself many times after selling that rifle! The OP and Iggy have dandy rifles!

Hear they were good forerunners of the Model 700. Am sure quality way above those 710, 770, and 783 models Remington stupidly produced.

THANKS to all for the help. After input from members in this thread l found the correct pad for my rifle.A little info too if l may.Remington 721`s (long action)and 722`s(short action) came with metal butt plates that said Remington in small letters on the top in both standard and deluxe configuration. The 721 magnum came in 300 H&H and 264 Winchester magnum. The magnum rifles were marked inside the stock with the letters MAG. or M. The magnums came with a black Pachmayer white line ventilated hard rubber recoil pad.On the pad the word REMINGTON is molded in from top to bottom. After this post l had a chance to examine a 300 that was purchased new by the owner in 1961.Still has the original box and in remarkable shape considering the years it was hunted with. Finding the pad l thought would be impossible.Searching the net led to few leads until a friend who is a big ebay seller told me about an auction for the exact pad l needed.eBay item number:192305009753. Here is what the correct pad looks like.I wanted to put this rifle back to the way I remembered it like many of you for the sentimental reason.Once l get the pad mounted will post a picture. Thanks

I have owned 4 721's. None came with a butt pad. 2 had metal butt plates, one plastic.

Only the 2 Magnum calibers came with rubber recoil pads. The standard calibers came with metal butt plates.
