The XM15 ORC in particular. Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Got it at a very good price but haven't had a chance to fire it up yet.

I have owned several Bushmasters over the years, and found them to be excellent rifles, you did well.

I carried a Bushmaster in Afghanistan. Mine had semi and three shot burst capacity. It shot fine.

Couldn't past it up. $550 on sale with a $150 rebate and a $55 store credit.

Interesting, I never knew the military actually fielded any Bushmasters. I had a 20" HBAR Bushy back in the pre-AWB days and it was amazingly accurate for an out of the box rifle.

Got somewhere around 4 to 5 thousand rounds thru this one (pre Remington made Bushmaster). Never a failure with factory ammo, and it will shoot about 1 1/2 inch with good ammo. I am satisfied.

In another forum there were IIRC many threads about "older" (ABC days*)Bushmasters vs. new Bushmasters............change in ownership, move production out of Windom(?).

Consensus seem to be older was better than the newer guns.

I have a newer Bushmaster XM-15 Patrolman's rifle that I bought 3 years ago. It seems to be well made and has been very reliable. There are a lot of comments throughout the internet on the demise of Bushmaster quality after Freedom Group bought Bushmaster.

I think most of those folks are just passing on comments that they've read or heard, and very few of them have actual experience with a new Bushmaster.

Within a few hours of the Newtown school massacre,I went to our WalMart store and bought a new Beastmaster .556 Carbine and ammo..
It cost me 898 dollars plus tax of 8 3/4%.
I still have it in the box un-fired.
The box is in the corner with full magazines beside it awaiting,,,,,.

I am sure other companies besides Colt make good rifles, but I always buy Colt AR rifles. I have three now and love them all.

I bought Bushmasters for my department's patrol rifles. Was 100% satisfied with their reliability and durability.

That would be me..... ..... I have a great older Bushmaster IIRC about 1995/96...Great gun.......

my comment was only to suggest more research...... there use to be only 3 makers of AR rifles....... today hundreds!!!!!

I guess my Bushmaster is an M-4 variant; I have had it awhile but I don't know if it is an older one or a newer one - the date of that distinction evades me. It is an excellent, accurate rifle. I mounted a Meprolight red dot (Tritium powered or sunlight powered/self powered - I forget how it works - it's been awhile) and it was even better and more fun to shoot.

So, I can't speak to your XM15 ORC directly but I can speak to Bushmaster quality in my own experience.

I understand the fondness some folks have for Colt guns but that's like saying you would only buy Colt 1911s when there is a world of top quality 1911s out there. I do own a Colt Cobra (vintage; not the new ones) and a Colt Police Positive (obviously vintage) but, otherwise, Colt doesn't make anything that I would have to have, especially not an AR variant. You will love your Bushmaster.

It is definitely a YMMV thing in re brands. That's why I have a S&W collection, for instance.

I've had my Bushmaster ORC for about 5 years, and have in the neighborhood of 10K rounds thru it. I've had no issues at all. Clean it after shooting and every so often, if I dont make it to the range for a few months. My only regret is that I wasn't able to buy it sooner.

The only mods I've put on is a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 scope, a Magpul Trigger guard (since the flat one it came with was sharp and didnt like my trigger finger) and every now and again I'll swap the Bumpfire stock on to it, and have some fun with targets at the range.

Pick up some extra mags, and have a great time. I've used both aluminum and polymer mags. I prefer the metal, but the gun doesn't seem to care.
