For those that haven't read about it, this is the version the army turned down,
and now to be available to the public.
Glock (full size) model 17 frame with model 19 slide.
The color is Coyote. I happen to like it.
I like the size/feel of the 17 frame, so I may buy one once available.
Update: I pre-ordered mine today (1/5/2018)
I like it but between my 17s and 19s I simply have no need for this one. If one happens to fall out of the sky and on my lap I won't refuse it but I'm not going to spend money on one
The 19X will be same msrp as current Gen.5's so you're not going to pay a premium for it.
They will all come with night sights, one 17 round magazine, and two 17+2 extended mags.
The coyote color is a plus for me, and I know some folks do not like it. I like it because it is different.
I already own a G17 Gen.4 and would like to try one without the finger grooves. Also, the new X features a rounded front barrel to match the curves in the slide, not found on other Gen.5's. Makes them look unfinished.
Totally agree, the idea of a G19 slide, on a G17 frame makes no sense to me.
Now a G17 slide on a G19 frame makes total sense (at least to me), but to each there own.
It was the MSH gun. The one they submitted to military trials. Sig also made a similar one. I'm guessing but the idea wasn't about concealed carry it was to give a full size gun with a slightly shorter slide for when sitting in a vehicle.
People complain about this size then carry a HK USP 45 or a FNX45
Not sure why they decided to omit the safety for the civilian version.
Could have been a good nightstand gun, wouldn't have had to worry about removing it from a holster (no kids here).
I think because it was mandated by the military. Otherwise people who buy Glocks don't want safeties and those people are larger buyers than the occasional guy looking for a Glock WITH a safety
Once upon a time I needed a pistol. Bought a Colt Commander in .45 ACP. The barrel was not that much shorter than the normal 1911 ... 4.25 inches as opposed to 5.0 inches. Still, really liked that shorter barrel/slide and the full sized grip. This Glock ... to my eyes it looks good! Little bit shorter barrel/slide ... full sized grip/magazine. And because it's a Glock ... all one can do is say "Perfection!" What's not to like!!!??? :-) Sincerely. bruce.
Gaston did such a good job the first time they are having a hard time making improvements. Different colors are good changing slides is fun like they did with the G30 put the slimmer 36 slide on it. Sold some more guns.
I believe they could sell some more with better looks get rid of some of the square corners.
Regards
Bob
All previous generation mags will fit in the 19X, so if you have any older Glocks, no worries.
BTW... just pre-ordered mine today. Hope to have it by the end of Jan.
Put me on the "that seems backwards" list. I see no reasonable niche for it to fill. Why not just put slightly longer mags in your Model 19?
Unique color which I like, no finger cutout on lower grip, rounded frame to match slide, no finger grooves.
If you want to buy a Gen. 5, which I do, I got this one for the same price as a black model.

^^^^what he said. He likes it! That's all it takes. For every Jack, there's a Jill. Just wave a new J-frame variant under my nose and watch how fast I get to my checkbook. Remember, "need" is a distant 4th on the list of the 4 basic reasons for retail purchases. Good shooting, all.
I like the comparison to the Colt Commander. Full size grip with a slightly shorter slide for a "service" sidearm, not a civilian CWP item. Heard an FN engineer discussing the 509 (which also came out of the Army's handgun competition) which also has a compact slide mounted on a full size grip frame. According to FN research and interviews, LEO's were looking for that kind of set up because it is more ergo for riding in a car (or I would imagine some armored vehicle). Could also be a bit more balanced with a suppressor can mounted too. Would I want one? Maybe not anytime soon, but maybe in the future. Personally I'm waiting for a Gen5 G19 MOS.
