Have You Seen This Knife?
This is a knife/sheath/fire-starter rod set that's new to me. Just stumbled on this video. Will view others, too.
Do any of you have this knife? Do you like it?
List any comments you may have about it.
I can't tell for sure if it's made in China or the USA. The comments below the video differ, and some people claim that many Buck knives are made in China when they're made here. I may call Buck to resolve that issue. The $45 price does suggest Chinese origin.
Anyway, enjoy the video, which is well made, by a man who makes knives, himself. Not that I've ever heard of him...but he's not a raw redneck like many who film knife videos.

Well, the reviewer says it's Chinese, and if you look sharp there are a couple of places in the video where you can see a tiny "China" just in front of the grip on the left side of the blade.
Looks like a pretty nice knife, though...

Buck's website lists it as Imported. Knife Center lists China as Country of Origin. My quick search shows more of a $65 going price. That's still not a bad price, there was a price jump on many knives at the first of the year. Buck also states it is 420 HC steel with their proprietary BOS heat treatment. That's an excellent blade steel. I could overlook the made in China if I were in the market for a knife like that.

It's not bad. One of my guys uses it. Has held up fairly well for the abuse given (significant at a military survival school).

I thought Buck was trying to manufacture more of their knives domestically. Still, that is a useful size for a knife, at a reasonable price point, and their China-made folders have been decent enough.
There is some temptation to rush right out and buy one, which I will resist on account of my shelf, which already has a lot of blades in that size range.

I'd look on the blade just above the hilt for "Solingen Germany".
Made in China means made with what kind of steel???

Some Solingen makers now also make knives in China. And in Spain. They don't usually describe the steel or heat treat.

Based on some experiences of a friend of mine with an ax, and on Norinco 1911 copies, I would guess that Chinese origin is NOT proof of inferior steel.

Buck's 420 HC steel with their proprietary heat treatment is about as good as 420 stainless gets. I carried Buck folders with 420 HC for many years. It aint the Dollar Store CrMov we no need tempering stuff.

Heard the same as kwselke. Buck suppose to do a great job with the heat treatment of 420H.C. My Buck Alpha hunter folder has retained it's edge through skinning and other chores. Not bad for a folding hunting knife too. Also got a Buck CSAR with the 154CM steel which is a beast of a folder but seems tough as nails. Need the sheath pouch for this one.
