I had posted a couple weeks ago about my frustration with not being able to find a new model 629 without a canted barrel. Still wanting a 44, I opted for this 3-3/4” Super Blackhawk Bisley. A major plus is that my 4” N-frame Diamond D Guides Choice holster fits it like a glove.

I used to dislike the look of the Bisley grip and hammer. But for the last few years,I'm starting to find they do have some sex appeal. All I have to do now is to convince my wife that our bank account agrees with me!Beautiful gun you got there!

Thanks. I find that their initial appeal is purely subjective. Previously I didn't like their appearance, until I shot a friends Bisley Blackhawk in 45 Colt several years ago. I was amazed at how well I shot it and how smoothly I could set up the followup shot, and it just pointed naturally for me. Now all of my single action shooters are Ruger Bisleys. Not including a family heirloom 1st generation SAA.

That model with the 3.75” bbl in 45 Colt with the extra 45 ACP cylinder is also very interesting to me. 45 Magnum and 45 Super in that little package would be a hoot. I’d go for it in .44, but I have too few .45’s :)

I've eyed the 4-5/8" for a while too. The Bisley grip frame is the way to go though.

This article tested 45 Super & 460 Rowland in the 45 ACP cylinder.

Is it a pain in the butt to get that base pin out? Doesn't look like there's much to grab. Can you use a standard base pin with that gun, or would it shorten the ejector travel too much?

It is, but that's not why. The end of the base pin on mine hits the tab on the ejector rod. I can remove the cylinder, but to completely remove the base pin you have to remove the ejector rod. Not sure a different base pin would work, unless it were a little shorter, and it would probably interfere with ejection. Thankfully you don't have to completely remove it to clean the gun.

How's that Mountain Gun working out?

Still unfired! Not for lack of opportunity. I'm running into the same issue you did...it's just too pretty. I keep telling myself "next weekend". We will see. It has an outstanding action...better than my stock 629-4 MG. I know it will drive nails. I have some Rim Rock 270gr slugs on order for a Ruger Bisley 45LC / 45ACP, looks exactly like your .44 above. When I get the rounds loaded up, the 25-13MG might have to make a debut :)

If you can't bring yourself to fire it I'll buy it back.
