Default here's one to figure out

friend of mine found this in the attic of his house...looks like a BB gun, not sure, bore is less than 22 for sure. Only marking on it TELL on the top of the octagon barrel. Anybody have any ideas?

It looks like a spring compression air rifle of some kind. Most likely in the .177 diameter. I have seen some dating back to the mid 1800's and often the actual barrel was only about 10-15", and sometimes loaded by dropping the ball (projectile) down the bore, then cocking the action. Send a few pictures to Pyramid Air and see if they can identify it. Most likely European.

I think it's a W W Greener or a Greener copy... bbl cocking spring piston pellet rifle.
'Tell' is probably Austrian or German.
Maybe a Greener mfg and 'Tell' is the model,,using the oct bbl to market off the Austrian/German/Swiss rifle style.
The stock wrist configuration reminds me of the Greener mfg air rifles.

Do a google search on the Greener name and antique air rifles and you'll probably find some pics and info.

got it, after an hour searching different word combinations found this; RARE, C1920 German Tell .177 Calibre Break Action Air Rifle. Sn 8408

It was built in Germany in the teens or twenties. The one he found is nowhere near this condition though.
