Default Custom Colt Government model .45

How do we place a value range on customized guns if the seller does not know who did the work? Gun was inherited.

I am looking at a mid 1970's Colt Government Model .45 ACP in 98%+ excellent conditon and looks like it was worked over by someone REALLY good.

Work done :Barsto barrel, hard chrome frame, checkering on trigger guard, front strap, beavertail, custom trigger and hammer etc.

How does the gun shoot? I'd look at it as a shooter and nothing more. The aftermarket "upgrades" might make the gun more desirable to some people, but that pool of people is going to be really, really small.

I'd guess that $600 is a realistic price. Maybe more if it's something that looks real nice, but that hard chrome finish is going to be a deal breaker for many. The collector value has been erased.

Does it still have the small GI sights? For most people those are going to limit how well a person can shoot the gun. For a gun like that I'd want something with upgraded sights unless your going to carry the gun than the less snag prone sights might be a benefit.

Have the owner field strip the pistol and look on the flat on the underside of the slide for a builders name or other markings. I can’t help with value but if the pistol was built by someone notable of the era, there may be something $ to it.
