Beretta Cx4 Storm
Thinking about getting a pistol caliber carbine and ran across a used Cx4 in a local pawn shop. I've known folks who've owned this model for years and all have found it to be very reliable. Personally I've always kind of overlooked it do mainly to the fact that they tend to be one of the more expensive PCCs and the Battlestar Gallactica look just never appealed to me.
Being a pawn shop this particular carbine is way over priced at $695, at least I think it is. Condition is 98+\-. It only comes with one mag, a 17rd Eagle brand which would make a great target on its first range visit.
I checked Gunbroker but didn't have much luck. I've got quite a few Beretta and MecGar mags including two, 30rd Berettas so that's not an issue. I'd like to know what you all think of the firearm in general as well as a fair value? I'd be using it for mainly plinking and possibly as a home defense firearm.
More a guess than anything but thought maybe a cash offer around $500?

I have a a CX4 that I bought new from Beretta about 12 years ago. It has been very reliable and a lot of fun. Mine is a 9mm and uses the same mags as my 92FS. Does the one you are looking at have any of the extras on it? Top rail, extra side rails, forward grip, barrel shroud? The Beretta add ons can be a little pricey. You can always offer less and see where that goes, maybe meet in the middle.

Thanks for the reply. It has the top and side rails but nothing else.

IMHO they are a great little PCC..... I've had 2 for over a decade......$550-600 on GB completed auctions... for used guns..
for 30years the 9mm H&K MP5 was the gun...... now it's a 5.56 AR carbine......but IMHO for most of us a 9mm is GTG....
the Battle Star G........ look ....... well the gun came first .......
mine will give rapid fire fist size groups at 50yd..... a great pairing w/ my Beretta 92s for fun at the range or..... if the SHTF

I had one several years ago. It wasn't bad.
If I were to buy another 9MM rifle, I would buy the Ruger PC 9 and get a bunch of Glock 33 round mags.

Nearly all PCCs are grossly overpriced IMHO. I mean, how hard can it be to slap together a blowback pistol with a 16" barrel and a buttstock? Only Hi Point seem to have worked this out.

I've had my 9mm CX4 going on 4 years, and I'm going to keep it. It's a great little plonker, house gun, truck gun, range toy and it's very reliable. Mine also takes the 92 mags, which lead me to purchase a 92FS. I have probably 10-12 15 round mags and 4 of the 30's.
It usually goes with me if I have to take a road trip. I think the price is a bit high, but pawn shops normally have a lot of wiggle room. I think I gave a little over $500 for mine, used but great condition.

Thank you all. I've considered the new Ruger as I have plenty of Glock mags. Also ran across a local shop that has a Keltec in stock that takes Glock mags, $499. I remember when they sold for just over $300.

Decided to run by my local Sportsmans Warehouse and see if the have the Ruger in stock. I've got $130 in gift cards for SW so that would make the price pretty attractive.

Not even close. Battle Star Galactica was on TV at least 20 years before the cx4 storm carbine.

I have a Ruger PCC as do two shooting buddies. The going market price seems to be $499. I paid that at a local gun show plus sales tax for a total of $529. My friends bought them online for $499. plus shipping and FFL fees. I've only seem one Keltec in a match and that one has already gone back to factory. I don't own a CX4 but I do own several Beretta pistols and they are high quality, no fail guns.
The 9mm blowback ARs are over-priced and seem to run OK from seeing them in matches. Prices will come down.

Ya, but the BSG with the mocked up-ed CX4s was a recent remake

There’s several on Armslist right now. Most in the $600-$750 range for basic gun and $750+ with goodies. I wish they made them in 10mm...I’d buy one of those. I wonder if you could turn a .40 CX4 into a 10...Hmmm.

I thought about getting one to go with my 92fs, but they seem so expensive for what they are. Probably worth it, but not to me. Figured I score a used one for a bargain someday. I recently found a keltec sub2000 that uses the Beretta mags. So I went with it instead.

I have owned a few PCCs over the years.
My 1st was the CX-4. Great gun, very accurate and easy to clean. I hated the sights and the looks. I sold it to my brother to fund my 1st AR. I will buy it back if he ever decides to sell it.
My 2nd PCC was a Marlin Camp 9. Accurate as all get out, with so-so sights. I could not stand the takedown and re-assembly routine, as the Camp guns need to be cleaned every 150 rounds or so to function properly. Sold it. No regrets at all.
My 3rd was a Gen 2 Kel-Tec Sub 2k in .40 S&W. I found the .40 to be unpleasant to shoot in the gun. Did not like the charging handle location, and I did not like the lack of a last shot hold open. The sights were also unimpressive. The folding feature is pretty cool. Sold it with no regrets. Still, I would buy one in Glock or Beretta 9mm if found a good deal.
I now own, and absolutely love, the Ruger PC Carbine. Accurate, easy to shoot, last shot hold open, modular magazine inserts, fully integrated receiver picatinny rail, FANTASTIC sights. I am hoping that Ruger will make other magazine well inserts. If they add Beretta 92 and/or Sig P320 magwell inserts to the gun, I will go that route, too.
The bolt seems to have been designed to able to swap over to other calibers. I am hoping the designers made it as a takedown, with a swappable bolt face and magazine well, so as to allow the gun to be switched from Glock 9mm to Glock .45 ACP to Beretta 9mm to 1911 .45 ACP. Throw in some .40, .357 SIG and 10mm, and you have a really cool modular gun system. They could even go with a .380 if they wanted. If they make swap kits, and keep the cost down, they will sells thousands of them.
I liked my CX-4. I love the PC Carbine. I got my NJ version of the gun for $550 plus tax and NICS.

FWIW I ran into a used .40 CX4 at a now defunct LGS with the rails, factory case and cleaning gear, manual etc. for $399.
$695 is way high to me.

Guess we may have a clue about why it's a "now defunct LGS"

BATFE shut him down. Seems he was doing some transactions off the books. If you know what I mean. I see you're in western Pa. It was in the Pittsburgh papers. Don't know what happened to the owner. He may be pressing license plates by now.
