I have wanted one of these for a long time...
....and I found one hiding on a dealer's table at pretty big show. I am surprised that nobody snagged it before me.
It is a Sig p228 in nickel. It came with both original mags; one nickel, and one phosphate black (they were both ban era).
I am one happy camper! It will be keeping my W German p228 company.

The 228's are great pistols. You found a rather unique one there. Congratulations.

Congratulations! I have an M11-A1 that I believe is very similar and I like it quite a lot.

VERY NICE.
Factory nickeled SIGs seem pretty rare in my area. Hell, they're pretty rare for internet sites too. So great snag there.
And imo the P228 (the original P228 like yours) is one of the best of the P Series guns. Just right in size.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing it.

Congratulations on a Wonderful addition to the Family
I am a big fan of the SIG P22x family of Autoloading pistols ever since I shot my first P220 back in 1977

Very nice. I have a blue 228 and 229. I had a 2 tone 220 for a time, but sold it.

Very handsome
Silly question
How do you know it is nickel and not brushed stainless?
(Looks like my stainless P226)

No worries....Sig did not produce any stainless guns until the mid-90's. This gun has an alloy frame and carbon steel (folded & welded slide) - ergo, it is nickel plated.
I did own an early p229 in 357 Sig that had a stainless slide and alloy frame. It was a neat gun but got pepper flake size rust spots on the slide despite regular cleaning and oiling.
Please do post your p226, we love gun pics

I was told, by a Police Supply House here in the Burgh, that the Sigs were nickeled in the 90s in the US...... up near Erie Pa. Got the impression they were all/most special orders from Departments or individuals.
I got a "special order" two tone Sig 245 with a nickel slide & blue alloy frame.. literally a "Chief's Special".... sweet looking gun. I got it used when the Dept switched from their Sigs to Glocks.

That is mostly correct.
There were runs of the nickel and two tone guns produced for the retail market along with the various Special Orders
Over the years there were 4 different US Companies that did the plating for SIG. The only two that come to mind at the moment are Klein and Robar.
I have one of the satin nickel P239s that came from Robar. This was one of the GOTMs. For a few years SIG made small runs of non-standard configurations with a different one each month, thus the Gun Of The Month. The GOTMs were only around 100-400 pieces.
This was the April 2005 GOTM. Only 210 of these were manufactured. It was chambered in 40S&W, I added the Nills grips and dropped in a 357SIG barrel since I do not shoot 40S&W
There was also a satin nickel P229 in 40S&W that was a regular production item

I fell in love with Sigs in the 90s. Like Smiths, they breed in the dark inside of a safe.
That is a very scarce gun you have there.
These are the only two I found back then. I sold them off years ago cause I'm just not a nickel guy.

Not a "Nickel" fan; but always liked Sig satin look. My two-tone was a special order by the Police Supply house for the Chief of the U of Pittsburgh Police Dept.
Spiffed it up a bit more with Hogue checkered wood grips .......one of my BBQ guns!

OP,
That’s a beauty and uncommon, to be sure!
I’ve had a few SIGs and have a P229 (.40 S&W) in my “carry rotation” (carrying it, now).
I concur with the previous comment… more pics, brother!

My department ordered 3 228's for test purposes in the 80's. Apparently Sig was not doing nickel at that time. Our 3 guns were reportedly sent down the street for the nickel finish. They came with 3 nickel mags and Trijicons. Never a problem with the nickel finish. They were unfortunately traded in for Glocks for the entire department. I am always on the lookout for a nickel 228. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with my blue WG 228.
