Well sort of.

I saw an ad for a pair of wooden Nill grips for an HK P7 M13 at half price ($75).

I call up the gentleman, I remember I bought some 1911 mags from him a while back, then he goes : “do you have an interest in rifles, I have one for sale”. Me “depends, whatcha got ?”

“An M16” [emoji15].

“Whoa hang on, the real deal ?” “Yes, the short one, commando.”

I ask him to send pics. Received these

And his price is $ 4000, starts enumerating prices for the Vortex optic, the quad rail, 300 rds of S&B ammo etc.. he also has the A2 handguards. I refrained from telling him to forget about all that junk, the only “valuable” part would be the M16A1 lower.

I felt quite deflated, but since I was going to his appartement to pick up my grips, might as well take a look and make a few pics.

Before anyone scream about crazy 5 digit prices and class III/NFA, I live in Switzerland, and I have seen M16 for sale at about 2 grands (same for FA AUG A1).

The lower could be an original 9’000’000 series Colt M16A1 commercial and export sales. It was obviously buffed and repainted, markings are weak now and you can see defaults beneath the paint.

The rest, well, no idea. The gentleman admitted not knowing anything about AR15 and M16, he just bought this on a whim, never shot it and and now wants to sell it. He already had an M16 in the past, only shot about 20 rounds. Nice guy though, retired. We spoke a bit, he has possessed a ton of cool hardware in the past, Thompson 1928A1 FA, CZ 75 automatic, 2 Auto Mag, a Wildey .. etc

The gun :

This is supposedly the switch needed for FA

Out of curiosity, can an AR 15 SP1 upper be used with that, like this one ?

Lucky Sweed, that's a $15,000+ gun here in the U.S. and maybe more being the Commando? We have that stupid outdated 1934 NFA and the 1986 laws that needs to be repealed, we're not "supposed" to be infringed upon, but are. The closest thing we can get without spending the bank on it is the Binary Trigger, BATF approved, it fires on the pull and release, but I've seen them in videos outrunning a full auto M-16 (time & rounds per min). it's all about the cadence of your finger! Have one on the way for my new AR pistol, they've been out for a while so I'm just praying they'll be grandfathered in when they're banned.

There is accentually no difference between the M-16 and AR-15 uppers and yes they are interchangeable. My local police Dept. has some DOD M-16 A1s similar to the one in your last picture. They asked me to build two uppers with 14.5 inch barrel because they considered 20 inch barrels to long for patrol car use. I use a standard AR-15 upper for the build and everything worked just fine.

The sp1 upper has a large front take down hole that doesn’t fit the M16 family of weapons without an adapter.

Edit:
Also some don’t have the auto sear relief cut into the back of them. Such uppers won’t close on an auto sear equipped lower.

No, it’s pushing $30k here for a transferable.
