The SIG P210 was adopted by the Swiss military in 1949, hence the P49 designation. It replaced the Luger Parabellum.

It was also used by the German customs and the Danish army.

Caliber is 9mm Parabellum, barrel is 120 mm long, magazine holds 8 cartridges plus one in the chamber.

Mine is a 210-2 version, built in 1954. I bought it in 1995 from a colleague, he was a major retiring from the Swiss army. He had no interest in firearms, so I specifically asked him if he’d agree to claim the pistol from the army and sell it to me. We agreed on 600 Swiss francs, abt $ 520.-

It is an extremely well built pistol, very accurate despite being a military service pistol with fixed sights.

Field strip is extremely easy, and the hammer / spring group just slides out vertically

Beautiful pistol you have there. Thank you for sharing.

The P210 is one of my favorites. While I have owned many and still own four of them, I always wanted one of the super rare forged Heavy Frame models from the 1970's (not to be confused with the later and much more common CNC Heavy Frames).

Last year, I picked up a holy grail of mine. This is a 1975 P210-6 Heavy Frame. Its one of the finest handguns I've ever had the privilege of having in my collection.

Another one of my favorites is this 1968 P210-6, complete with the matching 30 Luger barrel and the entire rimfire barrel and upper assembly. The entire sets is an amazing work of art. While rare, these sets were offered by Sig back then. In 1968, the P210 was the only handgun Sig built.

Here are those two in the middle along with my 1954 P210-1 on the left and a 2002 P210-6 Heavy Frame on the right.

The A prefix of the serial number is indicating that it was for the Army, while a P prefix is for private firearms.

The German P210-4 was used by the Bundesgrenzschutz, while they also dd border patrol and they were more of a para military police unit. There were only 5000 P210-4 built and a special run decades later of 1000 new pstols for collectors.

I enjoyed mine and gave it to my son as a very special gift. It leaves me with only the P210-6. The Swiss-made P210s are truly great firearms!

In Switzerland they typically sell for 1000-1500 $. Some rarer variations can go for a lot more, and some seller are advertising for 2200, however those don’t sell as there is still lots of supply.

Occasionally a mil surp can be had for $ 500 from private sellers.

Great guns ... and a very generous gift, guess he’s been a good boy.

Very nice Andy

I almost got banned over on Sigforum for daring to say the American version doesn’t measure up. I tweaked a few by calling it a cheap alternative to the real thing. ;)

From all I have heard the American SIG P210 is a pretty nice gun but very few people will be able appreciate the quality of the original Swiss gun, so many people cannot tell faux leather or wood from the real thing, either. The difference in between the Swiss P210 and the SIG Sauer version is reminding me of the new line of Korth revolvers, a CNC made end product that has tight tolerances and works great but does not measure up to the Korth revolvers that were made when Willi Korth still ran the show. In other words, it is a mass produced item for the masses were corners have been cut for affordability and a famous name is bringing in sales.

Exactly right Andy, and that’s how I described it. It’s a mass produced gun for the masses at an attractive price point.

Very interesting :) I never realized that the Sig 210 uses a modular hammer, spring, sear, and disconnect unit similar to the famous Tokarev T30 pistol :)

I found a 210-6, made in 1985 about 10 yrs. ago. Great gun, but had the worst hammer bite of any gun I ever shot. I must not be the only person who gets bit, because they make a tang extension that eliminates the problem. Very accurate with any 9mm ammo I have tried. My wife has adopted it as her own; she shoots it very well and finds the milder recoil much more tolerable than .45 ACP in a 1911.

I also found the hammer bite very annoying and got a few spare hammers and two whole hammer units and shortened the hammer spur just enough to remedy the problem.
