Oh yeah, I have a couple of escopetas, and a lupara somewhere, too.
Mine were both police evidence guns, picked up on the cheap and sent to re-education camp at my house where they agreed to come back to the good side. I sawed them off and put them to work.
This one is a $75 JC Higgins marked High Standard. It originally had a long barrel with a monstrous choke thing on it. I have since replaced the snap-on sight with a Trijicon bead, and it stands guard next to my sleepy head, full of 12 pellet 00 buck. (The little 870 below it was my work gun, which they unreasonably wanted back upon my retirement.)
This one is a Remington Model 11, which was long-barreled and spray painted black when it was brought to justice. I hack-sawed it into submission and Brownell's Alumahyded it back to respectability. If I travel overnight I throw it in the trunk. I may have 90 bucks in it, including the Alumahyde.
I'm fine with calling them riot guns. If I were to be caught up in a riot, I would want one of them along.

I purchased a new maverick 12ga with a 28” mod barrel with a 30” barrel and a 18” riot barrel. She’s decked out in riot gear.
Is it a riot gun or a master key for opening doors quickly?

LOVE the Remington 11. What is the bbl length? DOes shortening it that much affect the recoil action???

Wow you guys really like your riot shotguns. I do not have a short barrel shotgun so it was a no vote for me. I do however have an 870 with a 18" riffled slug barrel. All of the other shotguns I own have have 26"-30" barrels. Maybe If the quail, pheasants, and ducks have a riot I would be set.

No photos, but I have Remington 870 converted by Scattergun Technologies (before the Wilson Combat acquisition). Left the barrel at 20" and kept the rifle sights. I like the sights much better than the ghost rings. I use Federal law enforcement 000 buck and slugs.

Its 18 1/2” if you measure to where the barrel meets the receiver and 19” if you do the ATF approved method of measuring down the bore to the breechface.
The shorter barrel hasn’t affected function - I’ve only shot 00 full power buck out of it, and it will definitely loosen your fillings.

Late WWII Winchester 1897 Trench Gun w/ Bayonet
Digital images taken by Mark Calzaretta (Colt_SAA) / SW&CA
Owned appx. 25 years. Prior owner, retired Air Force Lt. Col. S. Hunt (approximately 30 years prior to my purchase).
Seems it is a late WWII and possibly unissued. I have never lettered a Winchester before. How do I go about getting a letter on this one.
Update, I found out how to get a Winchester letter. It is on the way but they can only confirm the manufacture date. It was manufactured in 1943. I hope the letter will have a date in 1943 included.

I've had my eye out for a milsurp Ithaca Model 37 or an old school 870 Police...and am considering buying the new version of the Model 37. For the moment the Benelli M4 is going to have to do.
I have to admit though, when pulling 12 hour shifts at the Gun Store I worked at Hawthorne & 164th during the L.A. Riots - the National Guardsman they posted a block away on the corner had an M16...probably a more appropriate "Riot Gun"

A recently acquired Lakefield 400g from the 70's. It was spray painted gloss black, from end to end. I stripped and refinished everything, and the worn and scratched frame paint was powder blasted for a matte aluminum finish. the magazine was replaced by a full capacity one and a side saddle came along. Should be fine for another century or so.

Ever notice how the new guns look a lot like something out of "Starwars" or "Aliens" these days...? I just got a CZ Scorpion, put close to 500 round thru it yesterday... It's now replaced my 10.5" AR-15 as the home defense gun. It certainly feels and looks like something out of one of those movies. It's great IMO...

Apparently the real riot was over the ultra short SxS. I must be dense because I still don't understand how it's legal under federal law but I admit I know very little about how gun laws work. I don't get how the "Shockwave" type guns are legal. Oh well. Moving on.

Never had a stock on it... so never a shotgun. Not designed to be fired by one hand, not a pistol. No rifled barrel, so not a rifle. Over 26”... not an AOW. Not a machine gun, silencer, or receiver... so “firearm” is the only thing left (skipped SBR, as it isn’t a rifle; not a DD because it uses shotgun shells).
If you toss a stock on a Shockwave, created a SBS. Traditional pistol grip, which puts it below 26”, you made an AOW. There was also worry about making an AOW by putting a vertical grip on a Shockwave, but not a pistol... so ok to do that.
A Shockwave with a brace, still not touched on the NFA. Even the folding brace setup on my TAC-14, which when folded gets down to 24”... isn’t an AOW. Measurements are done with brace in unfolded position (shown by the Black Aces firearms).
The NFA is just a shabby piece of legislation.

Just go to the Mossberg 590 Shockwave product page on the official website, Mossberg has the letter of approval they received back from the ATF on display right there with all the details.
That being said, I find myself strangely agreeing with something Nutnfancy said on the subject, which was in a nutshell, "Don't question it, just enjoy it."
I received a Mossberg 590 Shockwave 12 Gauge FDE as a Christmas gift from my family this year, and I love it.
Mossberg 590 Shockwave = Fantastic multipurpose firearm.
National Firearms Act = Blatant infringement of the 2nd Amendment.

Have you seen my avatar?
I have two but no pics of 'em.
Slug gun: Blued 870 Wingmaster Riot police trade in, 20" rifle sight barrel, sights replaced with 3 dot fiber optics (green & red) and a sling.
Buck gun: Parkerized Mossberg 590DA1, 20" barrel, XS Big Dot front sight, Vang oversized tang safety, S&J green Delrin follower, FAB Defense 3 rail forearm with an Insight weapon light mounted on right hand side, shortened the synthetic stock 3/4" to adjust LOP and then went to town with a soldering iron to stipple the grip area, turned out real nice. Looking at an Opsol mini clip to try out the new Aquila mini shells.
Toolman I've had that same book for at least 15 years. Great read and reference if your into fighting shotguns.

This 18" 870 Police came to me from Summit Gunbroker. I added a Wilson Combat 1-shot extension along with their new high-viz follower and spring. The sling is a Blue Force Gear Vickers along with their stock adapter. The only other change has been a strip of loop Velcro on the side of the receiver for an Esstac shell card.
It rides between the passenger seat and console when I'm working, but on callouts I usually pick my Colt M4.

New Kel-Tec KS7 is looking interesting. I found the KSG to be just a bit over the top, but a 6+1 3" single tube bullpup for $495 MSRP might be something to look at.

No, I don't have a 12 GA riot gun. Up here in northern MN we only have 20 GA or smaller riots.

The GB vendor that I bought the Ithaca 37 from sells a lot of police trade ins and confiscations. They had about five or six of these M37's with the yellow painted mag cap and rack numbers on the stock that they put up for auction one after the other. I picked up the first one that they had put up, I think for a little over $300. My bet on why the yellow paint is that the Mississippi Highway Patrol used them for less than lethal loads. The M37 functions great, it reminds me why the Ithaca's were so popular back in the day. The serial number is very close to the Vietnam contract guns.

I have my Nirinco ‘97 copy. It is in factory configuration. Without a disconnector I can hold the trigger down and fire as fast as I can workmthe slide and control recoil.
My pre 1940 Winchester ‘97 had been cut back to 20” by a previous owner.
And while not a riot gun per se I do have my Remington 1100 with a +3 mag extender.

Is that the same BATF letter the maker of now banned Bump stocks provided to each of their customers?
Government changes its mind on a whim.

That's an extremely paranoid way of looking at things.
Bump Stocks got reclassified due to a knee-jerk reaction by the general public orchestrated by anti-gunners and supported by the NRA in the wake of the Vegas shooting.
In other words, it was the perfect storm.
However, the likelihood of such a thing happening with Non-NFA PGO Firearms is practically zero, and even in a worst case scenario, they'd be reclassified as a Short Barrel Shotgun, so the most you'd have to do is turn in the barrel then replace it with a legal 18" Barrel, and obviously you'd also have the option to slap on a pistol grip then pay $5 for a AOW Tax Stamp or pay $200 for a SBS Tax Stamp since Short Barrel Shotguns are still legal to own as long as you have said Tax Stamp and permission.
Regardless of paranoid "what if" scenarios in which they are reclassified as a Class III Restricted Firearm somewhere down the line in which owners have a variety of options to deal with, the point is that they're legal right now.

What are the parts that are different between the 870 Express and the Police Magnum, and can they be used on a 20 gauge 870 Express?
I have a 20 gauge 870 Express I bought in the '90s, after I realized that my then-girlfriend's 20 gauge killed doves just as dead and just as fast as my heavier 12 gauge, without the extra weight.

I have several of the riot shotguns, but my favorite is an Ithaca 37. No engraving on the receiver and no dis connector. Paid $40.00 for in back in the 1970's when a local dept was buying new shotguns. I keep it loaded in the bedroom! I feel safe with it there.

I have a Benelli M2, but it's configured as a bird gun right now, however, 15 minutes from now it could be a very effective riot gun. Also have a Beretta 1201, loaded (chamber empty) in the den, a 590A1 in the bedroom and a Shockwave in the safe. Both Mossbergs are currently set up for Aguila Mini-Shells, with the #1&4 duplex buckshot loads

That is a beauty. Mine was made about 1958 and didn’t come with a recoil pad (not gonna install one either, gonna leave it original).
