Would you send it back for repair (Ruger Redhawk)?
I have a brand new Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum. It's a limited run Lew Horton 5.5" blued. I have not fired it yet. After getting it home, I noticed a (very) minor issue. It is missing some bluing on the face of the cylinder where you insert the rounds. Mostly around one of the six holes and a little on the edge near that hole. You can't really tell when the cylinder is closed. I contacted Ruger and they are willing to take care of it (re-blue the cylinder). Just wondering if it's worth it. It is a new gun, but maybe I'm being too picky?

I don’t think you are being picky. If you aren’t happy and they are willing to fix it, go for it.

I WOULD DEFINITELY SEND THE GUN IN. ITS A BRAND NEW LIMITED RUN MODEL, AND RUGER IS WILLING TO MAKE IT RIGHT........
AT ONE TIME, RUGER WAS LEADING THE INDUSTRY IN THE QUALITY OF THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WILL DO ANYTHING SHORT OF A BEAUTIFUL JOB.....
YOU DESERVE TO OWN EVERY LAST BIT OF THE REVOLVER THAT YOU PAID FOR......

No way would I send it back for a cyl refinish for a very minor cosmetic
flaw. As soon as you start shooting it it will no longer be blemish free.
If it was mine and mechanically perfect I wouldn't let anybody mess
with it including Ruger.

Ruger QC has been downhill.
Send it back. Sooner or later when the big wigs see so many being returned, they might fix the issues BEFORE they get to the customer.

Tough call. On one hand, the revolver came from the factory with blemishes and unless you bought it at a scratch-and-dent price, then you did not really get your money's worth. On the other hand, once you start shooting it and definitely if you start holstering it, that blueing is going to wear thin in spots and get scratched.

A PIC IS WORTH 1,000 WORDS.
I'm leaning towards post #4, IF you plan on shooting/holstering/carrying it afield much.

True, if you are going to shoot it allot, then that blemish will quickly blend in. Still, you paid for a perfect gun, you should have the peace of mind that comes with getting it. If it bothers you enough to post the question, my guess is your attention will forever be drawn to that imperfection if it goes unchecked. Last I dealt with them, Ruger takes about 2 1/2 weeks to turn around a repair.
Send it in while finish fixing is free. Then any wear you put on it going forward will be honest and accountable to you.

I am with the ones wanting 100 % you paid for that . But shooting it will blend. Now if ruger would sling you a few 100.00 back that would work

You purchased a limited edition, expect perfection.
It doesn't matter whether you fire it or it's going to be a safe queen.

Even though I'm a perfectionist, for something as minor as thin blue on an outwardly non visible part, I wouldn't take the risk that the reblued part wouldn't match, or that it would come back with some sort of handling mark elsewhere.
For that second issue, I've been down that road too many times, with guns,cars,etc..In a perfect world, you expect to get perfect goods and perfect service, but it's not a perfect world.

If it bothers you,,send it back. If you don't,,the issue will always bother you to the day the gun is worn to 5% original finish.
But be prepared for other issues like small handling marks on the returned item that weren't there before.
People just don't seem to be as careing as they used to, small things aren't a big deal anymore.
It may not happen,,hopefully not, but it can and I've gone around and around with a couple of service depts over things like that for customers.
Perhaps the cylinder alone could be sent in for reblue? That's avoid the entire gun going the trip back and forth and alot of handling.
They are just going to dip reblue it anyway and not send it thru the spectrum analyzer to make sure the color is right.
Just some thoughts..

ROLL THE DICE, & worry that they will fix the blue spot & replace it with vice marks??? IDK. Then there's the time standing still phase during transport/fix to & fro. From the shoulda/woulda/coulda dept, You didn't notice it when you picked it up (accepted it), how bad could it be?

I'd send it. Probably you'll get it back in a couple weeks and in six months you'll forget it was ever gone.

Not even a question for me, I'd send it in.
A lot of guys might see this as a little issue in an obscure place. I see it as a major finish flaw. If it's not right in this spot, it's likely the finish was not done properly elsewhere on the gun.
Nope, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go straight back to the MFR.

Yes, that is likely because most of the people in charge at Ruger now started at S&W.

As to the original question, the question is not whether WE would send it back. The question is whether YOU can really ignore it. If not, send it back to Ruger.

Sure, send the cylinder in for a re-blue. Then you can fret over a cylinder that doesn't quite match the rest of the gun...

That's all they're going to do anyway,,just take the cylinder off and dunk it and put it back on the gun. Off to shipping for the return trip to the happy customer.
No group of white coated specialists gathered 'round wringing their hands over wether the color is an exact match to the frame when viewed in the natural light of the Ruger sun.
They blue thousands of production pieces of gun parts a day. Those few from the Repair Dept get thrown in with them and come out with no special handling. They come out 'blued'.
It's a factory,,it's run like any other.
Some good,,some not so good.
Don't like the reblue the cylinder only idea, Then send the entire gun in and demand that the entire gun be reblued.
Then it should all match up color wise.
Hopefully no scratches exist or faded spots remain this time either.
Hope that no one decides to shine it up a little too and round a corner or blur some lettering.
You can chase this thing all around till you drop.
Maybe just demand the money back and get something else.

Another Perfectionist in the Real World
Get over it, go shoot your new Ruger. Have you ever bought a firearm that met your expectations? I have two acquaintances that have never bought a "satisfactory" gun in 5+ years, but they keep buying and selling guns.

If I could choose, I’d just send them the cylinder. If they call and want the whole gun, then go ahead and send that back too. Simple.

What's there to think about? Ruger said send it in so do it. I have used their CS several times and each time it was only an 7 day turn around. Ruger will make it right and I see no reason to expect them to do a poor repair. Ruger will make it right without costing you a dime.
