Default Scored at a antique store

On occasion I check in the local antique stores around south texas looking for whatever catches my eye. On my last trip I went to the back room of this one small shop where it's all dark & dusty. All stuck in muzzle down I saw a wooden barrel stuffed full of old BB rifles in all states of disrepair. I saw one that stuck out to me as not your typical BB gun as it had a fully adjustable micrometer rear peep sight. I pulled it out and woah & behold it was a Remington model 41P .22 rifle. It was complete except the front sight was missing. I paid 60 bux for it out the door.
A quick look at Numrich online and I had a replacement front sight hood and all 5 of the inserts on order. The parts came within a week. The rifle looked like it hasn't been cleaned in 80 years so I completely disassembled it & decided to refinish the stock. The barrel is bright and shiny however the bolt was gunked up with tar and carbon. I had to soak it for a while in my sonic cleaner since taking the bolt apart is a pain in the chops. After the sonic bath I hosed it down really good with Casey Gunscrubber & finally inside & out with Rem Oil. I sprayed the entire barrel and all metal pieces with Rem Oil and gently wiped down with OO steel wool to get rid of some of the surface rust. As you can see it came out pretty good and it's a ridiculously accurate rifle. A blind man couldn't miss. With very carefully aimed shots I was pinging a 6" steel plate at 105 yards. It can fire 22 shorts, 22 long and 22 long rifle.

Incredible find, and the grain in the stock is beautiful.

It may be the best sixty bucks you've spent in a very long time.

Great find. I have two Remington mod 41s and one is a 41P that I bought
without the rear sight. I would guess that an original peep sight would
be pricey if I could find one. Compare the mod 41 with most other
manually cocked bolt action single shots and you will see the 41 is very
well made indeed. Old school machined quality.

Nice find! Gorgeous wood. Two Sundays ago I was cruising our local flea market when I came across a Savage 99 in 243, a real "project gun" with rust spots all over, missing the magazine (99C), safety and front and rear sights. But hey, for $80, it'll give me something to do, right?

great find. not often seen. I've got my uncle's plain old 41 sitting by the front door for things that shouldn't be in my yard. been shooting for 63 years now(since I was five). I hope it shoots as good as it looks. lee

You did well on that one! Heck, the rear sight alone is worth at least $60.

What antique store was that? I always see broken muskets and rusty parts at antique shops. Very nice rescue.
