Anyone have a SIG P227 SAS?

I’ve been cautious about new SIGs. But I’m in the market for a metal framed .45. I already have a nice Colt.

This SIG P227 carry SAS was new and at the LGS. I think they have been discontinued so I figured I try it out. Same dimensions as a 229, but with 11 rounds of .45.

Anyone have a carry model 227? How did it hold up? Any problems to watch for?

Thanks.

sig

I bought a Sig 227 when the 1st came out. I still have it. I did put a threaded barrel on it(same barrel as the 220). I like it a lot. Shoots like a Sig with no problems. The only negative it is a duty size gun & loaded takes a strong wide belt to be comfortable. The SAS version sounds cool if it is the same size as the 229.

Let me know if you are unhappy with it & a swap MAY be in order.

I have had one since they came out

I did not wait for a Carry SAS. The two variants share the same frame but I wanted the longer standard barrel anyway.

Many of us P220 owners have been asking for a double stack P220 since the P226 was introduced back in 1983. I got my first P220 in 1977 (lower right corner)

I think SIG was very late bringing the P227 family to the table. Now-a-days so many people are going for 9MMs and as many rounds as they can get and want everything SMALLER. I am sure this all contributed to the early cancellation of the firearm

The P227 will hold up just fine. It is a time proven design

BTW, you can get 11 rounds into the factory magazine if you replace the floor plate lock. I just used the ones that are intended for the P226 magazines. This same MOD will allow 15 rounds into the 14 round magazines. This is the same MOD that the P320 shooters have been using for many years, after all the magazine bodies are the same.

Thanks for the input.

I see that Hogue makes wood grips for the P227. I'm considering doing the switch, but I know these E2 grips are a nuisance to remove.

Are the wood grips a good fit?

As long as you have the grip tool, the E2 grips come of easily and quickly.

To use wood grips, you will also have to order the screw bushings

I do not like that they did it this way. Both the P227 and the P239 had these removable bushings :(

Of course if Bubba messed up with grips and stripped a screw, I probably would love the replaceable design :)

I think my grips are Hogue's first set of production P227 grips. Those are checkered Coco Bolo wood. I contacted Ken at Hogue as soon as the pistol arrived.

I like wood. Especially on my SIGS and when it comes to wood, I use Hogue or Nills the most
