Thanks. I thought perhaps it was an interpretation of the law as I found nothing stating carrying more than one weapon was prohibited.
I’ll reach out to the VCDL and see if they know for sure? If any VA permit holder has ever been charged with carrying more than one concealed handgun they would most likely have heard about it.

My EDC consists of a Model 638-1 and a Model 38-0. I primarily carry in my front pants pockets using DeSantis Nemesis holsters. On my belt I carry a small pouch with folding knife and a small Streamlight flashlight as well as an 8 round speed strip in a different nylon pouch. Depending on circumstances, including how much stuff I have to carry in my pockets, I'll occasionally carry the Model 38 either in a shoulder holster, or in an OWB holster on my off side (approx. 8:30 position).
I used to be content carrying a Model 642-1 in my right hand front pants pocket, but was attacked by a pair of Boxers (dogs) one night while walking our 2 small dogs. I got lucky and no one was hurt, but if I could have gotten to either my revolver or knife it would have been a different outcome. I learned some hard lessons that night and switched to 2 revolvers - as well as adding a small flashlight to my EDC.
Regards,
Dave

Yeah, a 686-3 2 1/2" on my hip and a 640-1 Pro Series in my pocket. Commonly referred to as a "New York" reload! But I do carry spare ammo for both.

In one of Paul Harrell’s videos he mentions that some states only allow carrying one weapon. I never looked into which states those were. Does anyone know for certain where that restriction applies? Also if you’re in another state with reciprocity, I would guess their law would govern and not your home state laws?
I normally just carry one, but sometimes carry a Seecamp .380 in addition to my normal CCW.

Wow! That must have been hard to decide which and where it was, if you needed one in a hurry. Was that Afghanistan or Iraq?

Only when I am on duty. My choice for an off duty sidearm does take into account a higher capacity of rounds. My primary off duty sidearm is a Glock 32 with 13 rounds and a second magazine with 15 rounds.
I would not criticize carrying a second sidearm but the additional rounds meet my needs better I think.

Just south of Houston. The one on my hip is my go to pistol. I only carry that one. That day was just a one time thing to see if I could do it.

I often pocket carry a little P3AT in addition to a real handgun.
I believe Oklahoma restricts you to one handgun.

My father was a WWII navy machine gunner/radioman on a PB4Y2 bomber.
I took him to a VJ day celebration at our small town American Legion hall. He had some old photos of his crew loading up to fly a mission. A local reporter asked him what all the gear was he had on. Among the things he mentioned was his Victory Model .38 and a Government 45 lashed in his flight boot.
The reporter said "2 pistols!!, If you got a machine gun, why did you need 2 pistols." His response was "Lady, if we were still flying. I didn't need them at all. If we were shot down, I needed 2 cause I couldn't get my hands on three !!!".
When I became a police officer in 1973 and after I retired in 2005 thru today. I worked in both rural and urban settings over the years. I always carried my duty/primary weapon and a J frame BUG, usually in an ankle holster. The vehicle held a shotgun or carbine or both. Drawing the duty weapon from a seated position thru a seat belt or suit coat was near impossible. Twice the J frame became primary until I could get to my duty weapon. This view is just as applicable to a civiian on a long road trip. Once I used the J frame to arm a trusted citizen, although I preferred the shotgun for that purpose. In my experience, few civilians shot a J frame well but a higher percentage were capable with a shotgun.
Sorry for the long response but most responses in this thread seemed to be missing some big considerations.

Years back I did carry 2 for about a 2 week period. There was a escape from our county jail and if I remember right 4 extremely bad news murders got out.
At that time I worked PT for my buddy at his garage which was on a road leading into or out the city. That put it about 3 miles from the jail. I ran the gas pumps from 6 till closing 10PM and after 6 there was not a open business in about a mile before or after the garage. A good place for criminals to get money and steal a car. I worked there by myself and always carried.
After the escape till they were recaptured I carried a 1911 .45 in a shoulder rig and a Walther PPK.380 on my ankle.

Well, despite this being a bit of a zombie thread, I'll go ahead and update my previous post.
I now regularly carry 2 guns, a Beretta PX4 Compact carried IWB and a 642-1 in an ankle holster. The reason I started carrying a second gun in an ankle holster was to give me better access to a gun while seated, especially in a car.

ZOMBIE Thread...... but nothing has changed.
Except............. Mec-gar now makes a 15 round flush fit magazine for the Beretta 92 Compact!!!!!!!!

OK some days, going further from home....... I trade the 3913 with a spare mag (7+1+8) for a PC Shory-9 (12+1+15) or a Beretta 92 Compact (13+1+17) or Centurion 18+1+18+18).
If I thought I might fine the need a second gun...... two choices..... stay home a read a good book; or........ take a carbine.
Ruger "NRA" Mini-14; 10*+ 20x2
S&W AR-15 20* + 30x4-6
or a personal "suburban" PDW favorite; a Beretta CX-4 9mm pistol caliber carbine with 20* and 30 rd factory mags that also work in my Beretta 92 Centurion.
*Footnote:I like a shorter magazine in the gun as slightly more PC look and easier to maneuver in/from a vehicle.

When I worked in a gun shop, always at least 2: usually a 9mm shield iwb, and an LCR left cargo pocket. Sometimes I'd wear a conversation gun owb in addition, usually a 6in revolver or something.
Most of the time I now just carry a pocket Jframe, or iwb shield, but sometimes both.

Exactly!
Not to be rude or condescending, but there are some that carry more stuff than the average on-duty uniformed officer. I love my Guns, 2A as much as the next guy, veteran and retired cop and have never felt the need to carry as much as some carry. To each his own, it takes all kinds. On the other end of the weekend commando continuum is a guy I ran into this gent outside a Reno sporting goods store. He was content OC his RIA 206.

I did for a very long time. I carried a BHP backed up by a 36 for over 40 years. Now well into retirement I just carry a 649-2.

I sometimes drop my Seecamp .380 in a front pocket in addition to carrying a J-frame or my P239. I usually do it when I’m with the wife because even though she has her CCW, she rarely carries. That way I have something I can give her if SHTF while we’re out together.

Yep: My custom Reeder 454 SBH (for griz), Blackhawk (OM) (back-up for griz) in 45 Colt, Block 43 and Glock 27 (in 357 Sig), Glock 22 in 357 Sig (all three for mall ninja attacks), Sig Model 20 (in case of polar bears and musk ox), 300 and 338 Win mags (in case of moose or 400+ yard terrorist attacks), 10-22 in case of rabid marmots, and two 22 short Colt single shots.
I don't go swimming a lot!
Geeeeeze! Get real! How many here (Not LEO or combat vets) have actually needed more than one gun in their lifetime?

When I was a field agent I carried a J frame .38 (Model 60 or 342ti) in an ankle holster in addition to my duty weapon. I only carry more than one gun on my person when I go to Durham. Sometimes I carry three in Durham, yes its that bad.

On the job I always had my duty weapon and a BUG. Off-duty and now retired it was/is normally one. On rare occasions I may put a something larger than my EDC in the vehicle if I'm going to areas I'm not familiar with or long trips.
I won't chunk rocks at those who carry two.
The funny thing I see in this thread is those who are critical of those who do carry a second gun. You're using the same arguments as the anti gunners when they criticize people who carry ONE gun (i.e.) "if you need a gun, don't go there", "do you think you're in a war zone" etc...
Sometimes those of us in the gun world eat our own.

I don't see any comments that suggest that. As for me, I only carry one. But if someone wants to carry 2 or 3 or 6 and do so legally, I say go for it. I like to think out of the box too.

I recently transitioned from two J frames to two Sig 365's. One in the front pocket. The other in a IWB holster.

Yes, I carry my Ruger LCP as a BUG to my SW40VE during cold weather.

To quote honorable detective in Charlie Chan in Paris -- "Always carry spare, in case of blowout".

You do what you believe is correct. Seems there are no "good" areas anymore. Last week there was a shootout in the parking lot of my local supermarket. This week, also in my area, a female homeowner shot and killed a home invader. As poster 'triaxle' writes, "you just never know."

There are good arguments on both sides of this discussion. I do not know how to post links, I guess i"ll have to have my daughter show me. For what it's worth, on 9-5-18 in Cleveland, Ohio a 36 yr. old male citizen was confronted by three armed robbers in the area of E 30th. and Project Ave. The three robbers, gang members, surrounded and robbed the man of his legally carried handgun. The assailants pistol whipped and beat the man after disarming him. The victim drew a SECOND legally carried handgun and fired upon the three. One suspect was killed and the other two fled. The two suspects were later arrested and charged in connection with their partner's death. This is per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The area in question is a high crime area. If I can figure out how to post the link, I will. Unless one of the more savvy contributors beats me to it.

Never carried two handguns, but there were times I felt under gunned with one handgun so I grabbed a rifle instead of another handgun. I am not a fan of shotguns either unless its for bird hunting.

I would never disparage anyone for carrying a pair. Preferably, one accessible to each hand. If you're a working LEO, a tiny hideout of some sort may also make sense. (Many scumbags are now savvy to the fact of BUGs, right?).

I was thinking the same thing.
You must be spending time in the wrong places with the wrong people.
Asking for trouble.
But it's your choice.

I've also experimented a bit with carrying a pair of J-frames (a 642-1 and a 642ND) in the same manner, but not for any length of time.
My problem is that I'm one of those guys who has a bunch of cra stuff in my pockets, so figuring out how to carry it all with 2 guns, without resorting to a fanny pack, has been difficult.
Plus, for my typical attire (I practically live in jeans), pocket carrying a 642 isn't exactly "optimum."
I am a fan of having a gun accessible to either side. Unfortunately, lack of shoulder mobility makes support-hand drawing from my strong-side holster nearly impossible with my current set-up (Beretta PX4 Compact in a TT Gunleather Mike's Special IWB holster). It also makes using a crossdraw holster difficult. One thing I liked about carrying a 642 in a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster, that extra play on the belt made it possible for me to do a support-hand draw because I could reach the gun and pivot it in the holster and draw it out.
So, for now at least, I carry one gun at a time on me. But I see nothing wrong with carrying a back-up gun. How many people are willing to drive around without a spare tire?

But you don't have to carry the spare tire around with you.
When I leave home, I often have an extra handgun in the truck.
But I leave it in the truck ( with the spare tire ).

The principle is the same. Can you drive around without a spare tire in the trunk? Sure. You could use that space to hold other things. Maybe get a little better gas mileage without the weight. The likelihood of needing a spare tire is pretty small. Even smaller is the likelihood of getting a flat in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone reception. But if you were unlucky enough to be in that situation, wouldn't you rather have a spare tire?
There's a very low probability I'll ever need to use my gun, and an even lower probability I'll ever need a BUG or even a reload. But that probability is not zero. If I can carry a second gun without hampering my day-to-day life, than what harm is there? If it doesn't work for you, then don't do it.
