Browning Hi Power Grips
OK, there is a thread a couple below this one on the Merits of the Browning HP. I have one I bought new in 71, and I want to dress it up with some new grips. dark rosewood, Cocabolo dark or figured, or just something that catches my eye. Spegel is running months behind, Culina does not make them, and i am not interested in fake ivory or colored plastic to make this beauty into a pimp gun.
Any suggestions on where to start looking? Thanks

Bought a beautiful set of Birch for BHP off the bay several months ago but can not remember the seller. Quite a few different choice for the HP on there.

I got mine at CZCustom, wood, fully checkered, around $60
Can't remember wood type but look feel and fit is great. I'm sure their web page will have more info.

You might check with CDNN.
They have had rosewood grips for the BHP in the past.

Check out BHSpringSolutions. They have the FSF system, springs, and beautiful grips for the BHP and clones thereof. Some of the grips are really amazingly beautiful, but not inexpensive.

Yep - have a pair of Hogue checkered on mine, look and fit great.
I had an old pair of Pach's and used an Exacto knife to trim off the rear black rubber checkered panel that covers the backstrap.
I placed that section on the backstrap, re-installed the Hogues. Great set-up.
On a FEG clone that gets used as a 'stand-in beater', I put on VZ's. Fine for that. IF you ever go that route remember to use the neoprene 'O' rings, otherwise they loosen up quickly.

Browning Hi Power Grips
I am partial to Nill-Griffe, but they take at least 60 days to ship from Germany.

I have a pair of Philippine Mahogany I purchased from Brownell's years ago. Very nice checkering. I also have a set of Craig Spegel grips. Probably the best HP grip ever but you may have to wait for them.

KSD makes a great set of thin checkered turkish walnut grips for $60, as well as about a dozen garish and horrible designs targeted at the Belgian pimp crowd.

Man I wish I never let my HP go!
I had a set of "ultra thin rosewood" grips I bought from Cylinder & Slide. I think they were basically Spegal copies. This was about 20 years ago, don't know if they still have those.
They made an already great feeling pistol absolutely sensuous!!

I bought some new thin, checkered walnut grips just a couple months ago off of ebay I think they were made by Herrets and they were about $30.

How was the fit on a VZ's? I find I sometimes have to fit Navidrexs and Spegels to the individual gun.

For me there is only 3 acceptable Hi Power grips. Spegel (first choice) either in wood or delrin, Navidrex, or Pachmayr for that classic look.

Spegel's are the most coveted, but the wait reflects it and I think you're looking at closer to 9mo to get a set new.
I went with the Hogue's, but damn, those Herritt's sure look great!
I kept my "T" series original's on because they're so beautiful, but opted for the Hogues on my MKIII.

Uncle Mike's has a Spegel copy made of rubber. Ugly but cheap and they feel good. Let's you see if you like how Spegels feel and if so order some nice wood ones. That was my thought process but I liked the rubber grips enough that I never ordered real Spegels.
Never handled any Houge grips for a HP but I've always had good luck w their revolver grips.

I bought a set of Navridex grips. Thin and reasonably priced. The original factory wood grips are a bit on the chunky side. With slim grips, the Browning HP grip is about the same size as a standard Model 1911, .45 ACP grip.

I've collected a bunch over the years for my 2 HP's
Spegel wood and a set of his delrin grips which were an overrun from the FBI HRT grips he made in the 80s to go with their Novak HPs.
Hogue, factory and a few more.......
Spegel are my favorite but the Hogue's are readily available..... smooth or checkered.....

I have a set of the Uncle Mikes on my late '40s HP that I use as a .22 conversion host. They are quite nice but hard to find these days.

Anybody got some pics of VZ on their guns.
I am child of the 80's, so I am partial to the two-tone look of chromed frame and black slide. Trying to decide if I want black grips from VZ or some dark, checkered wood grips like the Herretts or Hogues.

The secret to getting Spegels is to get on the list. You will forget you were on it but one day you will get a call and you will get to choose from what he has produced. You purchase a set and send him a check. You then tell him to put you back on the list. Rinse and repeat...
The only other option is to buy in the secondary market or get cozy with one of the custom smiths that can order directly or have a hidden cache of his grips for their jobs.

I've used Spegel, Hogue, Nill, Navidrex, etc. But FWIW, the Hogues are thin, available in a variety of fancy hardwoods and synthetic materials. And the Hogues are easily available. No international ordering, waiting lists, etc

Another vote for Hogue wooden grips. They fit well and are reasonably priced. I’ve got them on both my BHP’s.

Do like my Walnut Hogues. And if any of you have any leftover Pachs for a BHP, try taking that composition 'checkered' panel that is supplied for the backstrap and put that in place before fastening on the Hogues.
I really like how that worked out on mine.

Not a BHP but, here is a photo of my CZ wearing VZ's!
I have VZ grips on three of my 1911's and they fit perfectly.
You may want to consider Aluma Grips as shown on the blued BHP. They fit very nicely and feel really good.

Not the best looking by far but the best feeling grips I've found are Navidrex Thin Micarta's from Brownell's.
