Although I have yet to see one that accepts the S&W 59 series magazines, I am interested in acquiring a 9mm Kel-Tec Sub 2000 in nine millimeter. I learned about their existence from a fellow forum member who seems to really like his. The way they fold, it will not take up a long gun space in the safe. Anyone have one that they feel strongly about either way? Thank you in advance. Rick

I have one in 9mm that takes S&W M&P mags (the full size mags).

It is wicked accurate at 25 yards! But it has harsh recoil because of it's light weight and the plastic buttstock, so I use a slip-on recoil pad on it when I take it to the range.

I also found it difficult to get my eye low enough to line up the sights - my cheek has to be pressed against the tube that the bolt (blowback action) and piston spring go thru which can get uncomfortable after a lot of rounds fired.

I added several MCARBO parts: recoil buffer, buffer tube cover, heavier 'recoilless' charging handle, and the notched rear sight (which is higher than the stock peep sight and gets my cheek a bit higher and off the tube).

Then I added the MCARBO 'All in One Pro Performance Trigger Job Bundle'.
It definitely made the SUB-2000 a better rifle! Still wicked accurate, but lighter trigger pull with a better re-set, and metal parts to replace some of the plastic.

I also have a Ruger PC Carbine and really like it too. The Ruger is easier to shoot, but the KELTECH is much lighter, more accurate and much easier to 'stow'. Also quicker to deploy if it is stowed. I like them both!

Also: I saw a video on UTUBE where a guy used a dremel to cut and then files a slot into the M&P mags that matches the Ruger Security9 magazine slot (in the front of the mag) and I tried it.
Now my Ruger PC Carbine takes the same M&P magazines that my SUB-2000 uses!

I have a Gen 2 SUB2000 Multi Mag version. It accepts a number of different magazines by exchanging the magazine catch, which is a $10 part available from KelTec. All that is explained here: KEL TEC SUB-2000 Multi-Mag Options Explained

It will not, however accept Glock mags which is okay by me because I don’t own any.

I keep mine in a 17” laptop soft case with extra mags, ammo and 1x optic.

How do you have your optic mounted?

The Gen1 Sub2000 is the one that accepts 59 series magazines. It does not have the rail mounting space on the upper and lower fore-end of the Gen2.

The open sights are mounted low and it seems the best way to line them up is by having the butt resting about 50% on your upper shoulder and 50% above it. I didn't find recoil that bad but didn't put several hundreds rounds through it in a single session.

The Gen 2 Multimag can accept 59 series mags and others. See this:

People make the mistake of thinking it’s a replacement for a rifle.

It ain’t.

What it DOES offer is a lighter, more compact long gun than virtually anything else semi-auto, and can be tucked about smartly in many nooks. It extendeds the capabilities of pistol ammunition from 50m to roughly 75-100m. Easier to make shots at extended range than with a handgun.

Think of them as a supplement to a handgun, not in any way shape or form on the same level as a proper “ar” (as the cool kids put it, no caps) or M14 7.62x51mm NATO.

I have the gen1 that takes the 59 mags, came with a 10rd.,15rd and 30rd mags, by no means a target gun but shoots good enough. Mine likes the heavier bullet (147gr.) best. I also glued some moleskin to the buffer tube to make it more comfortable on the cheek.

On a whim I purchased a gen 2 in 9mm set for S&W M&P mags. Also on a whim I decided to do a five hundred round without any additional cleaning or lube test. Of course it was cleaned and inspected when I got it home. It breezed through it with no malfunctions of any kind using various brands of ammo including the Speer plus P 124gr Gold Dots. Surprisingly for a blow back it was not all that cruddy afterwards. It seemed to prefer the 124gr bullets and turned in fairly good accuracy. All in all I like the little beastie. I mounted a Eotech 512 and a Streamline weapon light to set it up.

This 45 degree mount works great. Simply cant the rifle a bit and fire away. The rifle still folds and locks.

I also filed a notch in the top of the rear sight be ause as several have stated, the factory peep is too low. This makes it about right. You have to raise the front post quite a bit.

I owned a Sub2K Gen2 configured for Glock 19 mags for two years. The first range outing, the front sight came loose and rotated. Three weeks later it came back from Kel-Tec. From that point on, I had no additional issues. I would take it to the range, shoot it, clean it, repeat. I didn't add any aftermarket parts to it.

Did I feel strongly about it either way? No. I neither loved it or hated it. That's why I traded it. After the novelty of a folding 9mm carbine wore off, it did not provide that "fun" factor.
