Default Grips for Ruger Redhawk Round Butt

I recently bought a new Redhawk .45 LC/.45 ACP. I like the gun, but not so much the grips. I know some people like the small stock grips, but I wanted something a bit more hand filling.

Searching online I didn't find much. Altamont makes an exact replacement and it looks like they made the factory ones. One seller on eBay also had replacements in the same configuration as stock. Then there's the slip on Hogues. No thank you. Can't believe Ruger signed off on them. Slip on? Really??? They could have done a lot better.

Anyway, a seller on eBay had a set of used Pachmayr Presentation grips for the square butt. So, I figured I might take a chance and see if I could make them work. For 20 bucks it was worth it.

To my surprise and relief, they fit! There are a few places, of course, where the grip doesn't contact the frame, but that's not an issue. They fit tight, with no slop. They are a bit bigger than I would prefer, but they are acceptable and they're growing on me as I handle the gun.

I do like wood over rubber, so I might use these as a pattern to make a set out of wood. I haven't shot the gun with the new grips and maybe I might like them. We'll see.

Only other one out there is the new Hogue for RB Redhawks... I just got a set a couple of weeks ago but have not had the chance to try them yet...

Fit and feel great however...

Hogue slip-on stocks really don’t. It took some effort to get these on my .44 mag.

If you like this style don’t worry about them being loose fitting. They are locked down tight. The main problem you will have is getting them off to take the gun down for a detailed cleaning. Mine ripped when I tried to take them off the first time. I went back to the wood.

Thanks for the info. I just bought one of those myself. I haven't shot it yet, so I'll try the stock grips, but it's nice to know there are a couple of options.

Just wanted to give an update.

I got to the range today and the "new" grips were much better than the stock ones. I handled the gun and dry fired it a lot prior to shooting it and the initial feeling of them being a bit big soon faded away. They felt really good and should be fine if I want to shoot heavy loads.

I would imagine other grips meant for the square butt will fit as well.

Definitely worth considering.

I appreciate the update.

I've got a 7.5" 44mag Redhawk with the roundback. I purchased it used, it had the factory splinter grips on it. I fired 4 or 5 cylinders, and put it down.
I found some used Herrett grips, which helped, but I still have a problem shooting this hoss. I think the problem is the fact that the recoil on a double action is completely different from my single action Rugers. I can handle the single actions easier.

I do like the Presentation grips in general; having them on a few other revolvers. I may start looking for a set for my Redhawk.
