Default John Browning Firearms Museum

We stopped at the Browning Firearms Museum in Ogden, UT on the way back from a trip to western Idaho a few days ago. It isn’t real large but very well done, and it had some fascinating displays that included a number of Browning’s toolroom models of his designs. One especially interesting one was his first gas operated automatic weapon. It was an 1873 Winchester carbine with a “flapper” at the muzzle and a rod connected to a modified lever. They say it actually worked well.

They also had several early versions of the BAR including the first one. It actually ejected out the top unlike the finished version that ejected out the side.

Of course, they had lots of his machine guns as well.

All in all, it was a really fine little museum. I recommend it highly if you’re in the Ogden area.

I second the recommendation for the Ogden stop. I visited about 10 years ago. It was then located in the old Union Station train depot. and also had a nice display of train related stuff and some antique cars.

The other place to see JMB stuff is at the Cody museum. A lot of the Winchester/Browning stuff on display.

JMB had a small museum in the Lagoon amusement park between Ogden and Salt Lake.
