I have some Colt Grips from my Dad’s collection. I don’t know much about them except all but the faux MOP fit SAA’s. (not sure if they’re Faux or not…) The nicer ones are Ajax bonded Ivory and are sweet! The other set (darker) looks like Ivory but I’m not that lucky! I heard that you heat up a pin and stick it on the grip for an Ivory test but, can’t remember what to expect after doing so.
Any thoughts on what I actually have and a value for each? Thanks!
The pin test should yield a smell like burning hair if real and cause melting and/or a plastic smell if not.
The "pearls" appear to be for an E/I Frame (Army Special, Official Police, Trooper, Python - Not MKIII or V) based on proportions. Looks like an old JB Weld repair. Real MOP had a habit of fracturing and the escutcheon was a prime spot. But I can't help much beyond that.
