I get their catalog in the mail. I don't have enough money to bid though!
Colt single actions are beautiful on their own but that one's a stunner.
What's a feller do with a handgun he just paid five hundred thousand dollars for?
He has Dave Keith make a holster for it!
(Well ... that's what I'd do.)

I'm sorry but I know nothing more about it than what is presented in the video and on the RIA web page.

But the scene reminds me of the Russian prince (Grand Duke Alexis?) hunting bison from horseback...with a Smith & Wesson!

Would be a fun, if expensive, project to make a reproduction of that.

"Stunning" doesn't really cover it, does it? It's one of those guns that descriptive superlatives aren't superlative enough. For serious collectors who have the money to buy an old masterpiece like this one, I can easily see $500K for it. It's hard to stop looking at the photos of it.
The engraving on the hammer is especially intriguing, as it doesn't depict any "traditional" game animal (that I know of) like the other panel engravings do. Frankly, I'm not sure just what it depicts, but it sure catches the eye.
And the finely checkered ivory grips? Wow, just wow.
Would really be the icing on the cake if someone could determine who did the engraving.

I don't know,, the distrustful self in me just keeps saying there's a distinct possibility it ain't what it's said to be.
But that comes from many years, decades of seeing first hand what is done in that business behind the scenes.
-A 'no record' gun (in the Colt Archives). (A fakers delight)
-'May have been made' for the Exhibition'
-'May have been given as a gift after the Exhibition' to someone in Europe where this revolver was 'discovered' a few years ago.
-'You have to take a Leap of Faith with me here' ....
What's the #1 rule???,,Buy the Gun , Not the Story...
Might be the real deal,, a Colt factory engraved SAA, super rare panel engraving and checkered Ivory grips, ect.
But there's no Colt record. Just a pretty revolver and a hocus pocus video that says it's the real deal.
Would you buy J.Edgar Hoovers R/M. Factory Engraved, Ivory Grips but sorry,,, w/o any factory record at all. No other photos or paperwork to tie it to the Colt factory
'It looks like a factory engraving job and the guy in the video from the Auction House says it most likely is'.
Be serious,,with the skill of many engravers and 'smiths around today, it's childs work to do that scene on the panel of that SAA and to finish up a revolver to that degree.
1/2Mil selling price,, I wouldn't be surprised to see it quickly return to the auction block in a yr or so.
Now everyone that missed out the first time has a second chance.
..That old game.
But it could be real,,maybe it's just me.
