I carried my BHP daily for over 40 years. Bought it new in 1968. It is a Belgian 'T' series and I never wanted anything better to this day. Actually I really haven't seen anything better for me.

Ohhhh I really like this game! Nothing really special about either of mine, but they're special to me. Easily my most shot hand guns by a large margin. Both have a lot of cylinder and slide parts and custom work by yours truly in them. Both proven match performers as well. Excellent guns all around. Hi powers were practically cut for my hands.

And there is always the Canadian contribution by Inglis.
Lots of intrigue and shadow operations gave us this contribution to WWII.

Here's my contribution to the thread, a T Series. I also have a FEG clone, and a "Hi Powerish" FEG GKK45. The FEG clone is a Luger M80, and from what I have been able to learn, this particular version was made for export to South Africa, and can be identified by the large "Luger" in script, but I am having a hard time finding finding examples online that look the same as mine. RE: the GKK45, I guess I'm not man enough for it. My son can shoot it all day long, he hands it me and it jams on the second shot.

The GKK-45 isn't Hi Powerish at all. It is however very "S&W Model 59ish"

The FEG P9R was not a derivative of the Hi Power, FEG P9, or first or second generation FEG P9M, but was very similar to the S&W Model 59 using the S&W locking system and the S&W DA trigger system.

The FEG P9R was followed by a shorter barrel FEG P9RK and the aluminum framed FEG P9RA.

The FEG P9RK spawned the single stack .45 ACP FEG ACK, which KBI imported as the GKK-45.

As an aside, the "GKK" came from the initials of Michael Kassanar's (owner of KBI) daughter.

The PJK-9HP was named for his wife, Pamela Jane Kassanar.
The MBK-9HP and MBK-9HPC for himself.
The PMK-380 was named for his father, Paul Martin Kassanar.
The GKK-45, GKK-92 and GKK-92C were all named for his daughter.
The SMC-380, SMC-918 and SMC-22 were named for his sales manager.

----

The M80 was the FEG P9 imported by Mauser, who also imported the FEG P9R as the M90.

I like the pre-war examples. First, a Finnish contract high power and second the matching Finnish marked holster/stock. Third, a Chinese contract example.

This is my FEG that I've modified to my taste. Novak's milled the slide and installed new sights within the past few months.

Not just WW II. The Inglis HP actually didn't get into action in any appreciable numbers until the last year of the war. Most weren't delivered until sometime in 1945.

But the Canadian Forces which adopted the Inglis as their standard sidearm in late 1944 are just now looking to replace it. I've been keeping a casual eye on the debate; the last time there was a flurry of articles was about a year ago, and so far I have read nothing about a decision on the replacement.

Quit showing those grips...... been wanting a set of stags for years......but IIRC they are +$200 a set...... too much/can't justify for my "safe queen" Bright Blue MkIII

Love the non-PC humor Flattop 5!!!

My pictures are terrible but I'll try - and, as someone else wrote, PLENTY of threads on the BHP!

BHP (Portugal assembly) and Israeli Kareen

I switched the grips and as I recall I obtained additional grips but since last year's fire I can't recall. Maybe I'll get better pictures after they come out of storage.

Well, these individual ones are better:

Kareen

BHP

Bam-Bam asked:
IIRC Wasn't there a South American made HP clone....... alloy frame? and a short slide "Detective" model ????????
Yep, Fabricaciones Militares of Argentina (FM) was licensed by FN to make copies of the Hi-Power. FN was very strict and even had their own people do the final inspections. They are excellent quality Hi-Power clones. Although the finish isn't near as good.
FM did indeed make a Detective Model which had a 1 inch shorter slide and barrel. The frame is steel. Absolutely wonderful pistol.
Go back to my picture in post #3. That's a FM Detective on the bottom.

I think somebody did make an alloy framed Hi-Power at one time, but just who escapes me at the moment.
A little help here?

Here's a Pic of my Inglis BHP Mk1*. It has triple-matching serial numbers dating manufacture to 1944, and according to the markings was gone through by the armory back in '62.

Nice. Must have been one of those issued back when the British adopted these for their Airborne forces in late 1944 (but not the Army in general; that didn’t happen until 1957). It got suncorited during the FTR, and from what I can recognize, the letter before the FTR is the RSAF Enfield combination E-inside-D stamp.

Here is my HP Mk3 purchased Second Hand back in 2017. Paid $900 AUD for it. Since no longer being manufactured, the cheapest second hand one I've seen as been around the $1200 and up mark.

I had the magazine disconnect removed and some Cylinder and Slide springs installed. Still not the greatest trigger though.

Funny this subject should come up as I got my BHP out yesterday for the first time in years. No plastic here: just walnut and steel.

Only the real estate crisis of ten years ago prevented me from still having this pistol, rebuilt by Heirloom Precision. Boy, I wish I still had it - what a beautiful specimen.

Maybe we'll all get lucky and all those Canuk and Aussie HP's will end up on the surplus market - if they don't melt them down for scrap steel...

Don't hold your breath. The norm, in this day and age, is destroy, not sell as surplus.

I have owned three, two in 9mm and one .40 cal. The only one that remains is the first one that I bought. A satin chrome, 80's production Belgium made called the combat model with the "beer can" rear sight and the original pouch. It came with two extra matching magazines and the original manual. A sweet shooter, as most of you know, and fits the hand like a well made glove.

I dont have any pics but my brother owns a .40 FN HiPower with 9mm barrel. Balance is a little different but it is nearly indestructible.

That is identical to the one that saved my bacon in 1977. Stupidly, I sold it to pay for a semester of grad school.

I have rectified the absence with an FN Mk III, and FEG, and a Tisas BR9SS. Even so, I still miss that Browning.

Back in the day (1970-80s) several gunsmiths did conversions of HPs into Compact guns........ Austin Bulhert (sp) was one.

Think Model 39 cut down to an ASP, Scorpion or Trapper.

Shorten both the butts and slide and magazines........ imagine a single action 6906.

Anyone got one??????

FM did indeed make a Detective Model which had a 1 inch shorter slide and barrel. The frame is steel. Absolutely wonderful pistol.
Go back to my picture in post #3. That's a FM Detective on the bottom.

I think somebody did make an alloy framed Hi-Power at one time, but just who escapes me at the moment.
A little help here?
At some point in time FN made a special run of aluminum alloy framed HP's for some EU police force...They are marked FN and were made in Belgium..I know this is a fact because I have one! Maybe someone more informed can tell us more about these..

Can't help you there. Values are different in Europe. I don't know what they go for in the USA market.

If it was mine I would not sell it. That much I know.

Ever on the prowl to fill an invented niche - I found one.
Now that it's common knowledge that BHP's have been discontinued, I figured I'd get a 'stand-in' for my very nice early 80's Browning in the form of a FEG clone.

I didn't plan to get it, but won a GB bid on the strange FEG variant, the FP-9.
Raised vent rib on top of slide (why??) and a slab-sided slide that lacks the forward 'cut' on the slide that quickly ID's the HP silhouette.

Pic is from when I first got it.
I decided I didn't care for the strange slide and bought a stripped FEG/Kassnar standard slide from Numrich.
Had to fit the slide to the frame, and swapped the firing pin, spring, retaining plate.
Had to buy a new extractor and spring and install (NO fun), as the one on the FP-9 slide did not work well on the new slide.
New extractor works fine.

It came minus a rear sight, so it's at a 'smith now for installing a basic rear. Almost sent the slide to Novak, but trying to not spend so much on it, as I'll never recoup the expenditure.
Funny - I've already spent more on the 'beater clone' than I paid for my Browning.

I've owned a pretty wide variety of Hi Powers since the '60s. Most gone now, but still have an '81 GP Comp., '66 T-series and '89 MKIII. They do bite me, but they are still a favorite of mine, in spite of the bloodshed to my hand they have caused

IMHO, the MK IIIs, with their larger fixed or adjustable dovetailed sights, larger thumb safety, reinforced ejection port and firing pin safety are at the top of the list as far as a Hi Power that will actually be used and/or carried.

There are such a wide range of Hi Powers that might be currently considered collectible, and more in the future since HP production has ceased, I won't opine as to which type might be the best collectible....

I have a BHP cut to Commander size by the late Dallas, TX gunsmith Jim Corder. It is a sweet shooter and does remind me more of a Model 39 (of which I have a sample size of exactly one) than a Commander.

I ran on to it before I could find one of the FM Detectives and am pretty happy about it, as I prefer the Browning/FN guns.

The previous owner of mine sent me a copy of Mr. Corders obit, which although slightly macabre, was interesting in providing provenance.

Edited to add that only the slide is cut on this one and the frame appears unmolested.

My first own 9mm pistol was FM 90

My first duty pistol in ARMY/MP was FN HPDA
